About Tricia

I received a Master's Degree in English (Technical Writing) and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I am currently attending school to obtain my second Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been a medical assistant for 35 years, and for the last 16 years, I wrote a total of eight editions of one of the leading medical assisting textbooks and administrative medical assisting textbooks. I also authored the student study guides, instructor resource materials, test banks, and lecture power point presentations for all of those editions. I taught medical assisting classes for a total of 14 years, as well; during my time as an instructor, I did individual chapter reviews, entire book reviews, and technical rewrites of several book chapters in various publications. I also created a virtual medical assisting office, with vignettes about situations commonly found in a medical assisting environment, then questions designed to use skills taught in individual chapters in order to arrive at answers to questions posed in the vignettes.

The bulk of my teaching experience was in-person, classroom environments. As instructors, we were expected to encourage our students to remain in school, and help them to solve problems that might lead them to withdraw. Many times, this included counseling with them about difficult life situations, and at times, included referring them for professional counseling outside the classroom. I also taught administrative medical assisting in an online environment, as well as administrative veterinary assisting and administrative dental assisting.

I have a Master's Degree in English (with a primary concentration in Technical Writing, and a secondary concentration in English Literature). I began writing seriously after winning a contest in high school that was based upon writing ability, and throughout my college career, took numerous English classes both for credit and for pleasure. I scored above average in writing on my SAT, ACT, and GMAT exams.

I thoroughly enjoy working with students and helping them reach their goals in their area of study. I am able to find the right way of saying the right thing by use of an extensive vocabulary, yet at the same time, I am able to help students to find appropriate wording of the points they wish to convey in language that most readers will easily understand. I am encouraging, insightful, thorough, and am able to help students see the big, overall picture while they are putting their thoughts into words on paper. My goals include helping the student to succeed in his or her endeavors and to constantly improve their writing with each project that they begin.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been involved with Bible Study Fellowship, which is an intensive study of certain parts of the Bible for over four years. I am a Christian and have been for 32 years, and I am the person in our class who always has her Sunday School lesson done, highlighted in different colors, which mean different things, and questions written down to bring up in class! I love studying the Bible and gleaning truths from it, as well as studying the Bible chronologically, which puts events from various chapters together in the order in which they happened.
