About William

I'm a professional Chemist with 23 years of chemical industry experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life science and chemical manufacturing areas. I have mentored many chemistry technicians and interns over the years, and I have really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with others. I consider it a privilege to give back what I have been fortunate enough to learn during my career.

With my chemical industry experience I have been exposed to a large variety of chemistry technologies. I enjoy sharing what I have learned with students who are interested in learning.

Learning does not end at the end of a class or even after completing a degree; it is a lifetime endeavor. I have been a student for more than 30 years in my career, and I fully expect that my learning will continue throughout the rest of my career. Therefore, I would like to say to all of the students who have a desire to improve their knowledge base in Chemistry: "Let's learn together!"

I believe my teaching style and philosophy is imminently practical. It is very important to establish a good foundation of the basic concepts in Chemistry. With this foundation in place it is then possible to build upon the knowledge base as the student is exposed to new and more advanced chemistry concepts. Whenever possible I endeavor to explain the Chemistry concepts in a simple, easy-to-understand way, using non-technical language, until the student understands the concepts well enough to use the technical Chemistry language. I was once a student, and I struggled to learn certain Chemistry concepts initially when I was first exposed to them. I know first hand what students struggle with in learning Chemistry, and I firmly believe I can help them in the learning process and also make it interesting and fun along the way.

I also provide tutoring in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I hold a Bachelors degree in Chemistry at Whitworth University and a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry at Penn State University. I am proficient in Mathematics, having taken coursework in college through Calculus 2.

Algebra 2

I have always enjoyed math and have also enjoyed helping students learn certain math skills. My formal education has included Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus 1 & 2.

Chemistry

I hold a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Whitworth University and a Ph.D. degree from Penn State University.

Organic Chemistry

I completed a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from Penn State University. One of the requirements for the degree was to demonstrate an aptitude for teaching, which I completed. In addition, I taught several chemistry technicians and interns principles of Organic Chemistry while working in industry during the last 23 years.
