About Danielle

I am a third-year student at Columbia University majoring in Neuroscience and Biochemistry. I have tutored for many years in subjects including mathematics from kindergarten through college levels and writing at high school and college levels. I have helped many students achieve high scores on important standardized tests including the SAT and several APs.

I have tutored for Mathnasium and as a private tutor for upper level math classes. I received a perfect score of 800 on the mathematics portion of the SAT, and a top score of 5 on AP Calculus AB and BC.

I received a score of 5 on the AP Physics B and C examinations, and I have helped physics students achieve this top score in the past. I have also tutored students for the AP Biology exam with amazing results.

I received a perfect score of 2400 on the SAT in 2012. I teach a 10-course SAT curriculum fully customization for each student's strengths and weaknesses. The curriculum is tailored to the new 2016 SAT exam including the SAT Essay.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I have taken over four semesters of college level biology as a Biochemistry and Neuroscience major at Columbia University, and thus I have an extensive understanding of biological concepts. I have experience tutoring students for the AP biology exam. Tutoring students in biology has shown me the importance of putting seemingly separate biological concepts in context to give students an understanding of the material that goes deeper than memorization of key terms. Truly understanding biological processes in context is key for retaining the information.

Physics

I received a score of 5 on AP Physics B and AP Physics C E&M. I have tutored students in both AP Physics classes starting two years ago. One of the most important things I have learned about tutoring physics is showing people how to begin problems (often students become daunted at the beginning of a complex problem and don't know how to start) and how to organize problems (physics includes problems with many steps and students often lose their grasp of the problem as a whole unless they develop organizational techniques).

SAT Math

I received an 800 on the SAT math section and a 770 on SAT mathematics level 2 subject test. I also received a score of 5 on AP Calculus AB and BC. I have tutored mathematics from kindergarten level through college level calculus. I also have specifically tutored students in SAT math. Each session I teach on SAT math focuses on the needs of the individual student. For many past students, it has been helpful to focus on recognizing which mathematical principles a complex SAT math questions is testing via several techniques including using the clues available in the answer choices.

SAT Reading

I received a score of 800 on the SAT reading and writing sections. I received a 5 on AP English Literature and Composition. While tutoring SAT reading, I have found it helpful to discuss 5 categories of question types and teach students methods of approaching the reading passages to save time and minimize flipping back and forth between the passage and the questions. I also focus on teaching the common types of misleading answer choices and strategies for spotting and eliminating wrong answer choices.
