About Blake

Hello everyone! Let me start by giving you some background about my education. I am a student in the Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. For my undergraduate studies, I completed a Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) Degree in Spanish from Brigham Young University. Growing up, I always had a passion for math and science, but my passion for languages developed later while I was on an extended, two-year mission trip in Santiago, Chile.

I have been tutoring now for several years and have had the opportunity to work with many students from a variety of different backgrounds. I began as volunteer tutor in high school and during my early years in college. Then in 2011, I received my first formal job in tutoring as a Spanish instructor. I taught several nine-week courses over the next year and a half. Most recently, I have been focused on providing more individualized instruction. In the past year or so, I have helped more than a dozen middle school and high school students achieve their academic goals in a variety of different subjects.

I am committed to helping you succeed. I prepare regularly for appointments to ensure that you get the best experience possible.

Thank you for your interest! Send me a message and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

My first experiences with tutoring were with Algebra 1 students, more than 10 years ago. Since then, I've had numerous opportunities to refine skills and strategies. If math has been difficult for you in the past, I can help bring you up to speed. I've mastered the material and most importantly, I can help you master it as well!

Chemistry

Chemistry quickly became my favorite subject in high school, thanks in part to a wonderful teacher who always pushed us to do our best. I took AP chemistry as a senior and passed the exam with a "5" (highest rating given). In college, I continued to study chemistry as part of my preparations for pharmacy school. Chemistry is a difficult subject for many, but my students often tell me that I have the unusual ability of making it seem simple.

Spanish

I am highly qualified to help you achieve your language goals in Spanish. I lived in Chile for two years while performing missionary service and majored in Spanish upon returning home. I am fluent in the language, having received an "Advanced Mid" rating on my Oral Proficiency Exam. Whether you are just starting out or you have already taken several classes, I've been where you are and I'm ready to help!

Amazing tutor!!

Blake was very kind and knowledgeable on the subject. He showed patience while I was trying to capture the concept taught and at the same time his teaching skills were superb. Very thorough on his explanations and steps to take to solve the problems. He was able to make clear for me in one session, things I have been struggling for a while. Will highly recommend Blake for any tutoring needs you ma
