I was a math teacher for 33 years before retiring in 2011. I taught students in grades 7 through 12, working with them to help them become successful and reach their potential. During my teaching career I worked with at-risk and drop-out students who were struggling with their math courses and the state exams. I was very successful and helping them to become proficient and pass their exams for graduation. My approach is to ask the student questions that help me identify their weaknesses so that we can work together eliminate them. A solid foundation in the basics of algebra is essential for success in any further math classes.
I am certified in mathematics and hold many staff development certificates in learning strategies and curriculum development. I was lead teacher many years for both geometry and algebra, working with other teachers to improve curriculum and testing to insure improved success for our students. I also participated with the state education agency in reviewing and editing the new state tests for mathematics. I currently work 2 days a week for Weatherford College tutoring and teaching math.
