Math is an integral part of our lives. Whether we know it or not, we are always using math! When we go to the store and give the cashier our money, we're using math! When you know you have to read your 300 page book in only 15 days, how do you figure out how many pages to read a day to get it done? MATH!
I love math and I'd love to help you. I didn't always love math. I struggled through math in junior high and high school. When I got to college, I knew something had to change. I worked tirelessly to gain understanding of this tricky subject. I spent many nights studying textbooks and finding online resources. I knew that the way I'd been taught before didn't work for me, and I knew it didn't work for many others either. Through my time studying, I learned how to teach these concepts with simplicity and clarity. I pride myself on making math accessible to everyday life and bridging the gap from the textbook to the brain!
I am a math teacher by profession and by passion. I currently teach 4th grade math, but have taught 5th grade math as well as been an instructional assistant in a 6th grade math class! The algebraic concepts begin during these years, and I am well versed in their usage in the elementary and junior high classroom.
I've also tutored college students in remedial math and Algebra I to help them gain the knowledge they need to be successful.
Throughout my years in the classroom, I have gained experience with Special Needs students. I am passionate about helping all of my students be successful no matter what. If you/your child has a special need, you can rest assured that they will have my patience and I will work in their best interest.
If you're ready to stop being scared of math, let's get together and turn things around. You have what it takes to be successful and I'd be thrilled to go in the journey with you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas. I have experience teaching elementary math and am highly qualified to teach all subjects. I love working with kids and helping them reach their full potential--to succeed not only on tests in school, but in everyday life as well!
