About Weldon

I have tutored most of the high school Math courses, Elementary Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. I have taught Math of Finance (Business Math), Math Concepts, Elementary Statistics, Math for Elementary Teachers and Math Modeling for Decision Making (College Algebra) at the college level. I would feel comfortable tutoring any of these subjects. I could tutor College Calculus, but would need to "brush up" on that subject.

I worked in the computer industry since I graduated from East Texas State with a Master’s in Mathematics. The first 15 years of my professional career were spent writing computer software. The last 25 years have been in teaching/training. I taught personal computer (PC) software including MS Office products Word, EXCEL and Power Point and MS Windows operating systems. I taught two semesters (2001/2002) Math (Geometry and Algebra I) at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland ISD.

I found that I was not I was “cut-out” to teach in public schools. At LeTourneau University, I was an Adjunct Professor teaching Math of Finance (Business Math), Math Concepts, Elementary Statistics, Math for Elementary Teachers and Math Modeling for Decision Making (College Algebra). I was an Adjunct Professor at Dallas Baptist University for just over a year where I taught Math and Computer Science classes. That was a bit far to drive. As Adjunct Faculty at Westwood College here in Dallas, I taught College Algebra classes. They moved out of the Dallas market. I taught Basic College Algebra at LeCordon Bleu Culinary Academy until they decided to stop offering an associate degree and only grant certificates. I had the opportunity to teach Intel 8086 Assembly Language and ‘C’ Language classes at Richland and North Lake, respectively. I have helped (tutored) several family members of friends with various Math courses. I have on occasion tutored professionally.

My wife, Laurie Gay, and I live in the home that we have lived in for almost 31 years. We own it outright. We are active members of First Baptist Church of Garland. We are also active members of the Barnabus Sunday School class there. I have made several mission trips to Latin America and I am an ordained Deacon. My wife leads Precept Bible classes. I help her with the audio/video (power point and video) setup for her classes. Most of our social life revolves around friends in one or more of these activities.

The three oldest grand kids are in college. The youngest granddaughter started high school this year. My grandson, Riley Wentz, finished 2 years at Richland. He was a pitcher on the baseball team and is currently at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky, on a baseball scholarship. I have been the male influence in his life. I have attended (and coached one year of Little League) most of his games since he was in T-Ball. I have taken him hunting and fishing. He has picked up on both, but especially fishing.

I love teaching/tutoring. There is nothing quite like seeing the "light bulb go off" in a students eyes when they suddenly see how a particular (Math) process works. I would love to help any student understand any Math. It has been the focus of my life. Feel free to contact me if you need help with Math.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
