My goal is to inspire students to acquire a love of learning so they can be successful in school and ultimately in life. I have over seven years of teaching experience. I have taught public middle school Science and Math, and religion through the Diocese of Dallas. I have also tutored emerging readers in a Montessori school and prepared parochial school students for math competitions. I am also an artist, and have sold a few paintings. I am on the school board of a local parochial school to give back to my community and to help make a positive difference in the lives of young people. I enjoy working with young people and helping them to become the best students and citizens they can become while developing their God given talents. I appreciate their ideas and respect boundaries at all times. While I am qualified to tutor Science and Math, I have chosen Art, History, and Reading. I feel that many young people are 'over booked' these days and our time should be a time to grow in a relaxing, stress free, fun yet productive environment.
I am currently available afternoons and Saturdays. I request 4 hours notice for a cancellation, but realize emergencies happen, so 2 hours cancellation notice is imperative. I am available to tutor at a public library, or your residence if you prefer. I look forward to hearing from you and embarking on a fun, productive, and rewarding tutor hour.
I love reading and feel that it is the foundation for all learning. I have tutored preschoolers and place an emphasis on phonetics and comprehension. My reading and vocabulary skills are strong. I received a scholarship to attend Texas Tech Law School in part due to a strong LSAT score which emphasized reading comprehension.
I have a degree in Government and Political Science. I have also completed graduate coursework in political economy. I am a registered representative and have several years of experience in the financial service industry. I stay focused on current events, and believe there is an integral relationship between politics and business.
I love to draw. I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil. I have taken drawing classes, and studied oil painting for over two years. I have sold some of my work. I have studied under Andrew Wages, Pat Bentine, Tom Hands, Cheryl Mabry and received instruction from the renowned artist Ramon Froman. My specialties are people and horses, although I also enjoy landscape and abstracts in oil. I think art should be fun and should reflect the artists interpretation. It should be a relaxing, creative way to grow, relieve stress and develop the whole brain.
Please contact me for a time that would work for you. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you and for you. I appreciate feedback so our experience can be rewarding. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
