Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have my degree in special education and believe that I am highly qualified to teach ADD/ADHD. During my observations and student teaching I had plenty of interaction with ADD/ADHD students and learned several ways to help keep them on task during instruction.

Adobe Flash

During my first real teaching job I was doing all technology based classes. One of those classes was adobe flash. I know enough to teach children about this program maybe not an adult that already knows the program well.

Aspergers

My degree is in Special Education. During my student teaching I worked very closely with a boy who had Aspergers and learned the best ways to carry out his instructions as well as help his behavior during instructional times.

Autism

My degree is in special education. I have worked with many students on the autism spectrum in and out of the classroom. I have adapted many lessons and activities to fit the needs of autistic children.

Biology

Biology has always had a spot in my heart. My mother is a nurse so science has been a big part of my life. I think science of any kind is so full of wonder and I like to figure as much of it out as possible. I also like to help others understand how amazing the world around us is. I have taken several advanced science classes in high school and college that I think have prepared me very well to help inspire others to seek out answers to the unknown world that is science.

Computer Science

Currently I am teaching technology summer courses. I am very good at keyboarding (100 wpm) and simple computer concepts as well as things like excel, powerpoint, publisher, flash, photoshop and several other programs. Technology is one of my main personal interests and I like to share what I know on the subject.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a degree in EC-6 general education as well as special education. I am very good at adapting curriculum or individual lessons to fit the needs of the individual. Math, science and history are my favorite subjects to teach and also the hardest for some students to master. I like making difficult things fun and easy to understand.

Hard Of Hearing

Over the last couple of years I have been working with students who have hearing impairments. I have experience working with FM systems, audio amplifiers and have some basic sign language skills.

Special Needs

I hold a degree in EC-6 special education. I have been involved in the community since I was in high school and have seen and experienced many different aspects of the students and their needs.

Study Skills

I work with special needs students who need many different study strategies to get by. I have done several presentations covering everything from time management and organizational skills to word remembrance and memory skills.
