About Tamber

Need a tutor in the North Dallas Suburb area?

I tutor in a variety of subjects, with Math, English, and Psychology being my specialties. I can do test prep as well. I have an M.S. and a B.A. in Psychology. These degrees have assisted me in seeing the world in a unique way, and helps me apply different learning methods to each individual student. This aids their progress.

I believe tutoring can make a huge difference in a person's life, because sometimes all a student needs is a little one on one time to get a lesson down. It allows for unanswered questions to be answered, and a different teaching style can unlock doors for a student.

I am currently flexible in the hours I am available, so if my hours don't match your needs, just message me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra has always been a soft spot in Math for me. Although I generally favor the more abstract subjects, Algebra employs critical thinking and application of knowledge already known. I received a 100 for the full year when I took this subject in eighth grade, and once again in ninth grade due because I switched schools. Some days the teacher would even let me teach the class. This foundation led to me taking 5 years of pre-AP and AP math in the 4 years I had of high school (Doubled up 1 year).

English

Second to my love of Psychology is my love of English and all things related to the subject. I enjoy grammar and punctuation. I read often, and I dabble in freelance writing. I took 4 years of Pre-AP and AP English in high school, and tested out of taking English in college. However, in my Master's degree I was required to constantly read research papers and prepare reports, essays, and deductions from my readings.

Grammar

Not many love grammar and punctuation, but I do. I find it necessary to give balance and meaning to a sentence. My B.A. and M.S. have honed my grammatical skills so I could write grammatically seamless research papers.

Literature

Literature provides many foundations to shape how we see our world. My 4 years of Pre-AP and AP English in high school allowed me to test out of English Literature in college. However, I still took a literature class in my undergrad because of my continued interest in works that teach us so much with messages that are timeless.

Proofreading

Grammar and punctuation are like the math of English; they provide order and meaning to a work. I have written, proofread, and edited many essays and papers written in my undergraduate and graduate degrees. Additionally, I have proofread many other papers, essays, and documents written by others. I also proofed marketing materials for 5 facilities for 5 years during my time as a Marketing Manager.

Psychology

Psychology is near and dear to me. I have a BA in Psychology and an MS in Counseling Psychology. I took Psychology twice in high school, once as a freshman, and once as an AP class my senior year. Although I was intrigued as a freshman, I wanted to learn more. From the first day of my senior class, I knew that psychology is what I wanted to study. I have taken countless classes and written many papers in this field.

Reading

In order to excel in most subjects, it is necessary to read critically and effectively. This allows one to process the information he/she takes in to use it in daily life. From the age of 10, I read at a high school level. I was able to test out of English Literature in college by taking AP English in high school. I still enjoy reading and always have a new novel I'm immersed in.
