Being born in Sao Paulo Brazil and the son of an Irish lady and an American Veteran from WWII I started my civil engineering university course at University of Sao Paulo and graduated at the University of Amazon, Brazil. I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) and math in Brazil for over 30 years. Being a U.S. citizen I moved to America in 2005 and got certified as a math teacher for grades 8-12 in 2009. I have been teaching geometry, algebra and math models at Justin Ford Kimball High School (Dallas ISD) since 2008. As I lived in many different locations with a such diversity of cultural values made me a very understanding and comprehensive teacher for a broad variety of students' profiles. Here I introduce the techniques for taking tests and/or solve problems: underline the keywords, change a word problem into a picture problem, work backwards and so on. While moving from topic to topic I always revolve the topics to keep students memory of what was taught, linking when it is possible, every single topic. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
