I'm a graduate of UNT with a major in Music Theory and a minor in applied viola. I've tutored middle school students on the viola previously. For those that like theory, I'm a big fan of sight singing and ear training as a method of learning the fundamentals of interval sound distinction and contrast. Unfortunately the quality of my voice is not good; I'm not a singer. Also score reading and analysis can be a great source of learning differing theories about composition through musical history.
I also have a fascination for geometry as a way to marshal ideas, logic and concepts to prove problems.I am patient and can adapt to a variety of learning styles. I like to walk through problems slowly and systematically and then reinforce the fundamental concepts that, in turn, the student can apply and reapply to similar problems.

James is teaching me how to understand the basics of solving algebra problems. What I like about James is that he's patiently willing to help at your lowest level of understanding. That's more appreciated than anything.
My daughter, so far, had two lesson with Mr. Jim for Viola. He is very knowledgeable and patient with her. She had enjoyed both lessons and we are looking forward to seeing Mr. Jim weekly.

My 11 year old daughter was interested in learning violin, so I contacted James through WyzAnt. James was prompt, professional and patient. He seemed very knowledgeable about the violin and my daughter was very excited about continuing lessons with him. He played some (it was lovely) and she also got some play time. He discussed a bit of theory and covered some instrument care and basics. He told her how much to practice and stressed its importance without discouraging her. He was kind and soft-spoken, but in complete control of the session. He was very clear about what she needed to do before the next visit and even left her some practice music and study material. We can't wait for the next session!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My first college degree is in Music Theory and I have studied music history off and on for most of my adult life (I'm 61). This includes formal music history classes at the university level in addition to playing historical instruments. I was a member of the Collegium Musicum at Baylor University in the 1970's, where I played the Viola da Gamba and also the University of North Texas playing the same instrument. As an organized group of musicians, a Collegium Musicum is generally devoted to playing historical music on the historical instruments themselves (I own a Viola da Gamba).
I take an analytical approach to the organization of time and sound through examples taken from music scores and history. I achieved my bachelor's degree in Music Theory in 1980 from a music school in Texas (NTSU, now UNT).
The curricula for a bachelor's degree in Theory included music composition, instrumentation, orchestration, ear training, sight singing and playing the composed music of other student composers.
There were also exercises in transcribing music for one instrument to another. An examination of historical styles helped to point out the differences in sounds actually produced by the instruments as well as how the realized music was coerced from the written page.
Great Software package for handling business transactions; one of the most popular. I've used this software for over 8 years and it is very good for recording and reporting transactions. It comes with predefined chart(s) of accounts for services, manufacturing, sales of goods and more. Or, a user may make their own chart of accounts.
Many companies use QB and then hand off their financial statements to their tax preparers. Many accountants like this software too. QB is usually more than sufficient for recording various kinds of business transactions. Especially since many versions of QB come with prepared charts of accounts for a variety of business enterprises! Having worked as the sole company accountant for almost ten years; I’ve found QB flexible and ideal for those that aren’t “born” accountants and those who are versed in many contemporary topics of Accountancy up to and including CPA’s. My experience with QB goes back almost ten years. I have working knowledge of QB’s accounts payable, receivable, journalization, payroll, bank reconciliation and financial statement preparation and reporting. I have over 20 years of experience working as an accountant, have a B.Sc. degree in Accounting and can produce both automated and manual accounting systems.
I began playing the violin at age 6 and took lessons from ages 8-10. I continued to play until I was in junior high; about 14 years old. By that time I had been playing in school orchestras and I played in the violin section for the musical Oklahoma when I was 15. I began my studies of the Viola in my early twenties and played in three University orchestras in Texas. My minor was applied Viola. Although I was a music theory major I played the Viola every semester for five years in the orchestra and one semester in the chamber orchestra. I was required to take a course in string pedagogy on the University level where I was involved in teaching fellow students the Violin.
