Missouri Southern State College (Art)
Whether I am teaching you the magic of Photoshop, or helping you set up your digital imaging studio, I seek to assist and give you the knowledge for whatever you need to learn, such as…
- Scanning and resolution
- Image contrast and color
- Producing creative and artistic effects
- Optimizing an image to produce a great final print.
My focus is always on customizing my tutorials so that they will fit your needs and goals. In other words, I don't do anything generic... You tell me what you are wanting to learn to do, and that's what we build the instruction around, so you get to the end results you want as quickly and engagingly as possible!
And even though most of my image-editing and graphics experience has been with the full, professional versions of Photoshop, I can also transfer that knowledge to help you with the less-expensive Photoshop Elements.
You may be wondering: what's my background that gave me this skills to offer as a WyzAnt tutor?
I was a traditional-medium professional artist for almost 25 years and have written three instruction books about my painting techniques. But my current artwork is almost exclusively digital, created with Photoshop. Fifteen years ago I began reproducing my traditional- and digital-media artwork as digital prints, and in doing so I acquired software and hardware skills that I can now share with you.
I can teach you how to use Photoshop to create, correct, and/or maximize an image to look great on-screen, and I can also be a guide in helping you produce a beautiful print that is more likely to match what you see on your screen!
Of course Photoshop is a HUGE program that continues to add new features. I will not claim to have experience with all of the things that it can do. But when we converse about what you are wanting to learn to do, I will be honest with you if I feel that someone else will offer you more skill and knowledge in those particular Photoshop endeavors.
Though tutoring at your location is an option, I also make available my own studio for your Photoshop tutoring. (See my photo collection here on this site for a picture of the studio.) One advantage if you come to my studio is that I give you extra tutoring time at no additional charge. Another advantage if we work here at the studio is being able to print out your finished projects or photos on one of my large-format printers. Some students like to bring their laptop with them, and we work side-by-side with Photoshop on both of our screens. Wherever we're having our lessons, you'll sit in the "driver's seat" as I guide you in reaching your Photoshop goals.
I'll also mention that I have a long-time history of using Apple computers, and may be able to additionally assist a person to maximize their skill and enjoyment when using Apple hardware and software as well.
Whatever I teach, I do my best to help you achieve any or all of your goals in a process that is fulfilling and pleasurable instead of solitary and frustrating. I look forward to making that journey one of the most exciting things you've done for yourself!
P.S. I'm happy to explore tutoring and your goals by phone, but please note that you must have your payment information on file with WyzAnt before you can share your phone number with me (otherwise it is X-ed out in any email I receive from you). Submitting your payment information with WyzAnt does not obligate you or incur any fee; it just assures WyzAnt that you will pay for any tutoring session you may share with me.
P.P.S. In this big, broad Dallas metro, it's no small effort to travel across it and back. I love teaching but I do not love city driving. So please understand that my travel time and expense required to get to your location might cause me to request our tutoring sessions be for longer than one hour. However, if you want to come to my studio instead, I will give you extra tutoring time at no charge. Whether I am teaching you the magic of Photoshop, or helping you set up your digital imaging studio, I seek to assist and give you the knowledge for whatever you need to learn, such as…
- Scanning and resolution
- Image contrast and color
My hourly rate may be reduced for multi-hour or day-long tutoring sessions. That hourly rate may increase in some cases, because of the added travel time and expense to and from a student's location.
Ken is teaching me everything I need to know. He is very patient. He knows the subject matter very well and likes to teach.
I've just completed a session with Ken, and found him experienced and well versed in the specifics of Photoshop, more importantly he is able to relay/communicate the Photoshop information in a manner that best suits the student's requirements and objectives! 5 stars.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When I'm tutoring anyone in Photoshop my focus is always on customizing my tutorials so that they will fit your needs and goals. I don't have a generic tutoring program... You tell me what you are wanting to learn to do, and that's what we build the instruction around so you get to the end results you want as quickly and instructively as possible!
I can also help you learn more about digital imaging fundamentals in general, such as scanning and resolution; image contrast and color; sharpening; retouching; how to produce creative and artistic effects; and optimizing an image to produce a good final print.
I have been a traditional-medium professional artist for almost 25 years. Now my current artwork is almost exclusively digital, created with Photoshop. This started more than twelve years ago when I began reproducing my artwork as digital (giclee) prints. Through the years I’ve acquired Photoshop (and other software and hardware) skills that I’d enjoy sharing with you.
I am a patient tutor, and seek to explain things in terms a person understands, not technospeak. We can take things as slow or fast as works best for the student. Sometimes things have to 'soak in', and practice helps us all remember the how and where and what of software and our computer. Photoshop is a big world. Let me help you explore how fun that world can be!
I have used Apple computers and peripherals exclusively for almost 25 years. I feel very at home with them and enjoy helping others to feel that same way too. I am good at explaining things for someone who is new to a subject, through many years of teaching and consulting. My teaching style is to focus on what a person is wanting to learn to do, not a set course of subject matter that may be boring or of little use to someone. When you're excited about what you're learning, and about accomplishing your goals, then you will remember what you've learned and be eager to learn more. I'd like to help you experience the pleasure of owning and using a Mac!
