About Dennis

With over six years of tutoring experience in the sciences, mathematics, English, and standardized testing preparation, I welcome students of all ages to utilize my services. I graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience, and I am currently a Ph.D. student in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. I have a well-developed and comprehensive understanding of the biological sciences, mathematics, writing, grammar, and syntax.

Learning takes place every day, and it is not limited to the classroom setting. I strive to assess an individual's current level of comprehension in a subject area, adapt to that student's skill or age level, and provide a service that will allow that student to comprehend material rather than to simply memorize it. This process occurs by building lasting relationships with both students as well as their families that will allow them to develop into thinkers. It is my humble opinion that the first step in learning is learning how to think; furthermore, it is my objective to turn students of all ages into individuals that are capable of assessing their coursework and thinking critically about it.

Additionally, I have a number of references that can be made available upon request. I welcome all students to challenge themselves to develop into thinkers, and I assure 100% satisfaction throughout this process.

I take pride in serving underrepresented communities. Functionally, my rates and policies are largely negotiable, and I would be pleased to tailor my services to meet your needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I worked as a staff manager for the Upward Bound Program at Rutgers University. The initiative of this program was to prepare high school student for the university level by preparing application materials, preparing for standardized tests, and by providing academic tutoring to supplement their coursework.

Microsoft Excel

I have the following experience with Microsoft Excel:

As a data Entry Clerk in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University, I input questionnaire data using Microsoft Excel.

As a Research Assistant in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University, I use Microsoft Excel to organize and prepare data for analysis using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

Pharmacology

I hold a Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University in Cell Biology and Neuroscience, and I am currently in a Pharmacology and Toxicology Ph.D. program at the University of Texas Medical Branch. I am a member of and a grant recipient from the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. I am experienced in teaching neuropharmacology as a unit of biology and neurobiology courses.

Study Skills

I managed a tutoring center at Rutgers University. We had monthly seminars on optimizing studying skills, and we were instructed on how to communicate these skills to university-level and secondary-level students. In this area, I have greater than four years of experience.
