My name is Allison and I specialize in math and science tutoring for grade school students who are struggling or for homeschoolers who need a content area taught to them. I am a professional educator with almost a decade worth of experience in the classroom. I am a teacher by profession and also at heart - I thoroughly enjoy watching my students achieve their goals and the "a-ha" moment. I have worked with all kinds of students who are gifted as well as students who have special needs. It is my goal as a tutor to increase student student achievement and address any problem areas to increase understanding. Every learner is unique so I tailor my tutoring to the individual student.

Nine years of classroom experience with students who have ADD or ADHD. I have worked with the special ed department at my school to help create and review IEP or 504 paperwork that is legally binding for students who have ADD or ADHD. In my classroom I implemented those accommodations from their IEP or 504 paperwork so that they could be successful in the classroom. I have also worked with doctors by filling out paperwork as documentation which can lead to a diagnosis of ADD or ADHD.
I taught high school Algebra 1 for three years at a private college prep school. I have tutored numerous students in algebra 1 - my own students and others - and know how to help the struggling learner in this subject by showing them tricks and giving them tips. This is a subject I feel very comfortable with and I really enjoy. I have been to an Algebra AP institute for professional development to learn how to engage a student and prepare them for upper level math.
I'm a school teacher who has worked with autistic students. I have designed lessons and provided legally bound accommodations for these students. I have also done research and reading during my masters program about autistic students.
I taught high school chemistry for three years at a private college prep school. I have been playing guitar since middle school and have been giving lessons since high school. I took a class in college which involved a unit of having to learn how to play the guitar - the teacher didn't really like to play so she made me teach the class. As a classroom teacher I ran and sponsored our school's guitar club.
