Bio

I love to share "Aha" moments with my students!

I have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston. I taught both classes and labs while a graduate student and continued to teach Electrical Engineering at UH for 14 years after graduation. I am proud of the high scores I earned in the student evaluations that were administered by the department. While teaching in the EE Department I taught a wide range of classes but specialized in the graduate electronics sequence.

When our kids came along my wife and I home schooled them for several years and I taught science and math in a Home School partnership in my area.

I enjoy teaching. When teaching math and physics I try to relate the material to real world applications so that my students understand not just the how but the why of a subject. I do my best to make the material interesting and relevant. I have written a book on calculus, Essential Calculus with Motivational Problems, that reflects my effort to bring practical applications into my teaching.

During my career as an independent consultant I specialized in electronic circuit and system design and optimization. As a result of my varied experience I have presented and published 28 technical papers and hold 20 patents. During this time I used computers extensively, programming real world solutions using a variety of programming languages.

I look forward to helping you learn.

Computer Programming

I have programmed engineering applications including circuit analysis and optimization, web pages, and microcontrollers.
Fortran,

Fortran

I have used FORTRAN for several numerically intensive programming projects. I used FORTRAN to develop a circuit analysis and optimization program. I have developed several digital filter design programs written in FORTRAN.
Linux,

Linux

I started using Linux at kernel version 0.9 - before it was officially released at Version 1.0. I maintained a 6 workstation network for a non-profit for more than 10 years. This effort including training, selecting software, updating software, as well as writing and configuring various applications for our users. I have experience with the Red Hat, CentOS, and Ubuntu distributions and currently use CentOS extensively. I program and maintain several hosted web sites based on Linux.
Perl,

Perl

I have used Perl extensively. I maintain a comprehensive set of database scripts that are used on several websites (using MySql database engine). I use Perl to study stock investments, create data driven SVG images, as a BASH shell scripting language, to create graphic files (using gnuplot), and other diverse applications.
SQL,

SQL

I have developed several on-line database applications using MySQL and PERL. These include support of a national non-profit through custom programming of volunteer records and case notes databases and reports.

Always Helful and Very Insightful

He is very concise in describing programming syntax, which is usually the biggest hurdle for new programmers. Helps visualize physical math in a easy-to-breakdown form for computer languages.

Excellent tutor and very smart way of thinking

Bob is teaching me circuits and is a very, very good teach. He quickly explained concepts in a very easy to understand and simple way. I will be now tutoring with him with more sessions as well as my wife to learn the basics better! Highly recommended!

Great Tutor Highly Recommend

I have not written any reviews until now primarily due to my hectic schedule. So allow me to fill in for anyone considering this tutor. Bob worked with me throughout the entire semester on a college course denoted as "Linear Systems"; a course I should have taken a while back following circuit analysis. However, things did not work out that way. With Bob's help, I was able to catch up on the required material; he slowly explained the concepts and worked through the problems probing/testing my current knowledge of various related topics. He was very patient with me and trust me it got a little rough trying to understand some of the concepts. However, he did not quit and if he couldn't get through to me and or if we were on different sides of a solution; Bob would spend his free/off time researching the material so that he better explain the topic and or send me documentation he created to help with the learning process. He was regularly available and was willing to squeeze me in early mornings or late nights if necessary, another characteristic I enjoyed was attentiveness to the material (found a lot of issues with questions and answers but also encouragement for test preparation ) . Lastly, with his permission, I recorded our video session (via windows game bar) so that I could review our lesson on my own time. Thus, I highly recommend him. The price for his time was a little intimidating but as you know; you get what you pay for and I assure if he's not the right fit for you or your material he will let you know. Thanks-Again Bob could not have passed this one without you!

Calculus tutor

Bob is an excellent tutor. He helped my daughter with AP Calculus and she was so relieved to find someone who could explain the concepts in terms she could understand.

Great knowledge and super professor

Physics and grid, talked about how the grid works, great knowledge and super professor, highly recommend, the cross-zonal capacity calculation is coordinated between the zones causing and the zone facing the transit flow.
