Hi, my name is Maggie and I am a very experienced tutor with over 16 years experience that wants nothing more than to see each of my student's knowledge and confidence grow!
My approach includes patience, presenting concepts in multiple ways, and teaching utilizing concrete methods before abstract. I use as many 'hands on' manipulatives to introduce concepts because it's fun (and who doesn't like fun?) and it makes it easier to 'see' what's really going on. I am firm believer in 'it's not WHAT you present, it's HOW you present it', and the more creative & interesting, the better!
For the past 2 years, I lead the STAAR Math Tutorial Series at a local Junior High. And I have created math tools specifically for students to enable them to master concepts based on their dominant learning style.
I consider myself VERY fortunate to have the AMAZING students and parents I do! I am thankful everyday that I am able to do what I LOVE.
Thank you for looking at my profile. I would love to help your child succeed, too! Hi, my name is Maggie and I am a very experienced tutor with over 16 years experience that wants nothing more than to see each of my student's knowledge and confidence grow!

Ms. Maggie, after 1 lesson on Algebra I, has already gotten my son on the right track. He was resistant on the idea of tutoring until we met her and had a lesson. Now he is asking for her help! She is full of energy and prepared for lessons. She has a way of getting and keeping his attention and trying to relate the lessons to things in life. By connecting with him on his level, and immediately earning his respect, I see a brighter future for my Algebra student/son. I'm SO pleased that we found Maggie!
Maggie is great and she is providing my daughter with some excellent tools to help improve her math skills. I really think this will help my daughter get ahead of the game as she moves in to 7th grade.
My daughter really enjoys her sessions with Maggie. She always finishes in a great mood and is excited about reading. Maggie brings fun books and get kids interested and excited about reading. I have noticed improvement in my daughter's confidence and that is priceless!
Miss Maggie (Margaret) is wonderful. She is very patient, thorough, and has a great teaching skill. My daughter has enjoyed her tremendously. She is very friendly and very smart.
Maggie is a very sweet and caring tutor. My son Andrew gets along with her very well, and he is very comfortable. Maggie shows that she wants my son to get better with her support, and she also wants to make him eager to learn more. She has so many tools to learn from. It has been great meeting her, and we hope to continue seeing her. Thank you again!
Margaret and my daughter (15, Geometry) hit the ground running in their first tutoring session, Margaret is smart and personable and communicates well. My daughter gave her an "A" and after just the first hour and 1/2 session, she said she felt more confident in the areas she was having trouble with, so for that alone I am most grateful to have someone help my child where I cannot.
Margaret has started tutoring my 7 year old with 2nd grade reading, comprehension, spelling and writing. She is great, nice, knowledgeable and connected with my son in no time. He seems to really enjoy his time with her. I see a huge change in just a few sessions on his attitude towards homework in general and reading in particular. He is existed and I see his self-confidence rising. I’m very glad we found Margaret and look forward to continue to work with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am experienced in elementary, K-6 subjects including math, reading, reading comprehension, and language at all levels. I also have experience tutoring students in math and reading specifically for the Texas State test (TAKS or STARR for math, reading and science), resulting in the highest level of recognition.
I have taught several children to read (prior to entering kindergarden), tutored 1st graders once a week in reading 2011-2012, tutored 3rd graders in reading (ESL) 2010-2011, tutored 3rd graders in reading 2011-2012 and tutored students in reading comprehension 2011-2013 for Texas State tests (TAKS or STARR) with several years resulting in highest level of recognition.
I just completed a Math Tutorial Series for 6th grade specifically for STAAR students that needed extra help at a local Jr. High. I have been tutoring for the STAAR (and previous Texas State Test, TAKS) for years.
I utilize effective study skills with ALL my students and my own children to maximize their learning and help them reach their full potential. (and when they follow my recommendations, they always do well, because they truly work). Tutors should both teach and model great study skills during lessons ~ for example, my students know now to 'make a card' for areas that they need to review: (I provide brightly colored cards and these are only for areas that are not clear; they learned this from me...'hey, let's make a card for that'). Many of my students have a series of 'cards' and then they can be reviewed for mid-terms/finals, etc. This is just one example but it is a very effective study skill!
