Greetings! I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (minor in Spanish) as well as an M.L.S., Masters of Library Science degree from Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas. I have worked 20 plus years in public libraries (Houston Public Library, almost 16 years, and City of League City Library, 11 years). I have provided reference service to all ages during these years. In addition, as recently as 2007, I have completed the College of the Mainland Alternative Education Program aka P.A.C.T., except for my required one year of internship as a Teacher-of-Record. I passed the courses in the top of my class.
In the interim, I substituted at the CCISD, Clear Creek ISD, elementary schools (Kindergarten through Grade 5) for an entire Fall and Spring session, using the AESOP online system to acquire substitute jobs on a daily basis. I worked in 18 different elementary schools of the CCISD, assuming the responsibilities of the teacher in different grades and schools for five days a week (Kindergarten through Grade 5, Special Ed, Resource Teacher, Music Teacher for all grades once, Drama Teacher for all grades once, and Science Teacher for all classes twice). The highest grade that I taught in CCISD was 5th grade.
I have always helped all ages learn better by providing personal reference services to the public. I am known for my organizational ability, my creativity in developing programs for children, and my sense of humor. In some of the CCISD elementary schools, I have worked with mainstreamed students in their group classes, observing their interactions and helping them reach out to other classmates for assistance or for sharing of their knowledge. I welcome the opportunity to help your children, tweens, teens, and young adults succeed in their individual and intrapersonal/interpersonal goals. I also believe that some children need positive, supportive mentors like me in order to succeed in our multinational, global economy.
I can help ESL learners of all ages, GED test-takers, college students, elementary school and SAT or ACT preparation students. I have also helped 9th and 10th graders with their TEKS Buen Viaje Spanish textbooks, introducing verb conjugations along with popular words. I am interested in having Spanish learners write simple prose or poetry as well as study Spanish fiction and nonfiction works. In my last two years with Wyzant, I have been privileged to help adult as well as college-level students succeed in their public speaking efforts.
Informing me ahead of time about your individual needs will afford me the opportunity to organize your sessions effectively. I also would love to help you succeed in other subjects like social studies, government, history, creative writing, philosophy, or science when you need to write essays, poetry, or research papers, providing you with interpersonal editing assistance. I do not tutor in math and science beyond fifth grade, since these subjects are now taught in different ways which I have found, personally, to be more confusing than logical.
Tutoring different ages is challenging and rewarding. I tutor clientele in area public libraries, particularly Freeman Public (Houston/Clear Lake, TX), Pearland Public, and Friendswood Public on a year-long basis. Occasionally, I travel to Fairmont Public in Pasadena and Alvin Public in Alvin, Texas to help clients of different ages excel. I do not meet clients in their homes.

Well educated and knowledgeable tutor. This is the beginning of my path to hopefully success on the TOELF test. Today we did some exercise and kind of evaluate how I am in order to plan the topics that we need to enfatice. I will be practicing at home and then bring the exercises that are harder for me. Looking forward for my next lesson.Laura, 1 lesson with MaryTutor responded:
Laura, you mentioned how tired you were yesterday after a 'big-wig' arrived unexpectedly at your work site, hoping that you could stay late. You defended your right to meet with a new tutor at a pre-arranged time. I appreciate your loyalty in setting realistic goals for yourself. Thanks so much for the great review! I love words, so I figured out what you really meant when you said, "...topics that we need to emphasize". Hopefully, you will be more rested when we meet on a Saturday in the near future.
Mary was very helpful and understanding.
I give her a very short notice to get some college essay edited and she got back to me in a timely manner and helped me to finish my work. She was being very helpful in catching my grammar and sentence structure issues. She also give me a lot of recommendation on a lot of word choices which made my paper sound a lot better. Thanks. Looking forward to working with you again.Chi, 1 lesson with Mary
Robert actually had fun at his tutoring session today and he is learning as well. He did much better on his last quiz. We are both very happy with Mary as a Spanish tutor. My only regret is that I didn’t find her sooner.Melissa, 6 lessons with Mary

Mary was a joy to meet; she introduced me to a lot of great books to help supplement my goal to be fluent in Spanish! The bilingual novel she showed me will be especially helpful!Kathy, 1 lesson with Mary
My son enjoyed his first session
This is my son's first lesson with Ms.Mary. He had a great time and can't wait to have the next session. He is going to be a second grader in the fall. Although his reading is above grade level, his writing needs much improvement. Ms. Mary is patient and knowledgeable. I feel confident that my son is in good hands with her. And I truly appreciate she gave a detailed review on the session, which gives me a full picture of what went on in the study room.Fan, 11 lessons with MaryTutor responded:
Thanks for appreciating my hard work and follow-through session notes.
Mary has been helping my daughter study for her GED for the last several months. She has worked with her on GED language queries, social studies, science, and some math. She has been a great motivator and extremely helpful. So far, she has passed every test she's taken.Shana, 15 lessons with Mary
