I am an experienced educator with fourteen years of experience teaching, supporting, and tutoring elementary literacy. In addition to being a state-certified reading specialist, I also hold gifted and talented, ESL, ELA 4-8, and early childhood-4th grade generalist certifications. Finally, I possess a Master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a reading specialization.
Though I currently work in Houston I.S.D., I have also taught in other districts and systems in the Houston area. My experience working with all elementary and middle school grade levels has provided me with unique insight into the different ways children learn to read and comprehend text. My passion for literacy and heart for children make me an ideal choice to work with your student.
In addition to being certified in several ELAR-related areas by the state of Texas, I am also an avid reader and writer. I have designed and presented numerous professional development sessions related to reading, writing, and vocabulary.
I am knowledgeable about early literacy and familiar with several phonics and word study programs. Contact me for a free consultation. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
