About Lisa

After many years of elementary and then science teaching, Lisa joined the NASA Johnson Space Center Human Research Program. In government experience, Lisa developed and was awarded several grants which were managed and completed. Her work can be seen online in the NASA 21st Century Explorer, and in the NASA Fit Explorer which was written for educator in space Barbara Morgan’s maiden voyage. Lisa has recently published a collaborative book with the NASA JSC Nutritional Biochemistry team, which is available as a free interactive book on iTunes.

Lisa’s experience with culturally diverse populations in school districts across the nation began in 2009 when she joined as a mentor with the National Urban Alliance for Effective Education. Working in elementary, middle, and high schools across the nation, Lisa conveyed the message to emphasize student strengths and interests to administrators, coaches, teachers, and students using culturally responsive teaching strategies.

Lisa is committed to a Community Advisory Committee for Advanced Academics at the local school district where she lives, assisting in formulating a new plan of action for all children. In addition, recently she wrote and was awarded two grants for students in Texas and New York to speak with astronauts onboard the International Space Station in 2016 concerning wastewater recycling systems. She also volunteers for the Brazoria County United Way on their Community Impact Committee, and supports local STEM education as a board member for Stephen F. Austin School in Jones Creek, Texas. Currently she is working on a collaborative effort between Rise Communities and the Alvin Independent School District to enhance science and interdisciplinary learning through community schools and science centers.

Lisa N. is a doctoral candidate in Transformational Leadership, with emphasis on Solutionary Thinking. She holds an MEd in Educational Leadership and a BS in Science Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. Lisa lives in Jones Creek, Texas with her daughter, their two rescued dogs, and three adopted cats.

Lisa is a science teacher and can assist your child in most science areas!

Allowing students to learn in their own style with an emphasis on their strengths enables confidence and competence in elementary learners.

Lisa is available for K-8 tutoring in all areas, and high school writing, reading, history classes, physical science, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and to an extent physics. Lisa is more than happy to explore student strengths to come to a working format and plan for success. Let's see what we can plan together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified 1-8 teacher in the state of Texas. I have taught grades 1-8 for 15 years.

Handwriting

I taught 3rd grade starting in 1984 which included handwriting as a subject area. I taught third grade for 7 years.

Homeschool

I was a homeschool teacher for a doctor's group in Katy, Texas for two years. I managed instruction and daily activities for learning for all children. Some of these children went on to win grand champion in the science fair!

Phonics

Our 3rd grade reading course was based on alphabet phonics which began at our school in kindergarten. I taught phonics for 7 years.

Study Skills

My work with the National Urban Alliance included developing research based strategies for study skills for students to use in every single subject area. I facilitated teacher professional development for the entire school to use all strategies in every subject.
