About Gilberto

I am certified bilingual and ESL teacher. I have taught k, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade bilingual and regular classes. I am also a certified school librarian. I have been working as a school librarian for the past 21 years.

I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Technology, and an Endorsement in School Library Media. I have Bachelor Degree in International Business Administration with a concentration in German. I collaborate with teachers in my school integrating technology into their instruction. I have also served as the Campus Instructional Technology person for my school and the district for many years.

I currently work for Fort Worth ISD as a school librarian. I do math tutoring after school. I am going to be retiring this year and would like to start exploring the possibility of teaching online. I have always like teaching math. But it wasn’t until my son started middle school this year and I had to help him with his math assignments that I became interested in becoming a math tutor. I am currently studying to obtain my math certification for grades 6th – 8th.

I love math. I do math tutoring one on one with kids in my school. I have a very good knowledge of math. I have taken a lot of math classes in college. But mainly, I know how easy is for kids to struggle in math either because they don't know well the basic concepts of math, or because the teachers don't take the time to differentiate instruction when necessary.

I am a true believer that every student can be successful in school with the right guidance. Math is one of those subjects in which it is very important to build a strong foundation. Something so simple as knowing the multiplication tables can make the difference between being able to grasp more complex topics such as fractions, ratios etc.

When students start having problems in math, it is very important to get them where they need to be before start feeling that they subject is to hard for them. A good teacher needs to find ways to build students confidence in the subject by eradicating doubts and building students confidence in the subject. Once the students are at the level they need to be, teachers need to start challenging the students, and if possible advancing them in the subject.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
