About Matt

Having learned Spanish as a young adult (and non-native speaker), I have a unique perspective on the common struggles and learning trajectory of other native-English speakers. I have experience working with all ages, and love leading my students to the many "ah-ha!" moments throughout the journey of learning Spanish.

Whether your objectives include learning the basics, becoming conversationally fluent, or studying at the university level, I hope you will consider giving me the opportunity to help you achieve your language acquisition goals.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Washington, and spent an additional academic year studying at the University of Cádiz in southern Spain. I spent my first two years as a teacher at a bilingual school in Antigua, Guatemala, and now am a Texas-certified (Bi-lingual) 4th grade Dual-Language teacher in the Fort Worth area.

Don't let fear and frustration get in the way of achieving your Spanish language goals! Contact me to see how a professional educator with experience and passion can keep you on track.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas (EC-6). I currently teach 4th grade, and have several years of experience working with elementary school students as they gain the critical skills needed in order to build the foundation for their life-long path in education. Whether they need reinforcement in math, reading, or writing, I am a strong proponent of a visual and interactive approach to learning, and go out of my way to make each lesson applicable to the interests of my students. Students learn when they are interested in what they learn!
