About Keith

My love for teaching comes directly from my love of learning. My excitement to share any and everything I learn comes with no bounds, and teaching provides an opportunity for both the teacher and student to learn.

In my previous employment as a tutor for the Houston Independent School district, specifically a Math tutor for low-performing students, and I am currently seeking certification in that area. I have gone to several professional developments to foster my craft, as well as gained experience in lesson planning, lesson delivery, targeted instruction, teacher/student relationship building and the ability to work with any age group. I am currently on a path to be a certified Math teacher, however I've opened my teaching interests to Social Studies and English as well.

In my university studies, I majored in psychology, and am aware (from a theoretical standpoint and real-life interactions) the developmental needs of children, preteens/teens, and young adults. I also have the ability to unearth processes, and catch errors in thinking or in problem solving.

I specialize in tutoring math for grades 3-8, primarily in preparation for STAAR testing, and my range for math extends into High School curriculum as well.

My main goal in tutoring is to challenge students, and expand their minds in a no pressure environment. That does not go without saying I have high expectations for all learners, as I believe that all students can succeed when their academic needs are met.

I am currently available at all times, and completely flexible.

My SAT math score (620) was within the 80-85th percentile and has always been one of my favorite subjects. As a math tutor, I can provide an overall improvement of mathematical fluency, as well as specific interventions. Math is a muscle that needs to be worked out, and I have the tools to properly train it.

I have an excellent ability to create memory heuristics for remembering facts, dates, events, etc. History can be perceived as an irrelevant mix of isolated events, and my goal as a tutor for History is to illustrate the sequential connections of historical events, and to also provide context as to what influenced an event.

I can say that I leave little to no room for disappointment in everything that I do. I look forward to hearing from you soon, and I am excited to assist you with your success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am currently in the process of obtaining a teaching certification for Mathematics 4-8 (covering Algebra), and I am currently and AVID tutor at Coble Middle School.

Elementary Math

I am currently seeking certification in mathematics grades 4-8, and in my most recent employment, I was an on campus tutor for grades 3-5 (primarily 4th, ages 9-11), where I worked with students every day on basic skills and improvement in lower skilled areas.

Football

Voted co-captain of the team my Senior year in high school, I am versed in the positions of QB, WR, CB, FS, SS, and RB, with some knowledge of the remaining positions.

STAAR

For my previous employment, my primary objective was to improve student's STAAR scores, which was measured by their growth. I earned an award for my work through the ASPIRE program.
