About Natasha

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts from University of Texas at Arlington
Generalist Certification with Specialties in Reading, writing, Literature, Test Prep, and Tutoring Enrichment.

My love for teaching started at the young age of 7 years old. Like so many of my fellow colleagues, I was attracted to this career because of one HIGHLY Effective teacher during my school age years! I committed my heart to make this same type of impact on as many students as possible.

With a smaller, although diverse and concentrated population, independent and sole tutoring will allow me the opportunity to make a difference in students' lives of all ages one tutoring session at a time!

My lesson preparation creates an innovative learning experience in "All Things Reading & Writing"! I use real world references to engage students of all ages and of diverse cultural backgrounds which increases students' level of success and mastery of Reading and Writing. While the use of problem-solving skills and higher order thinking skills like analysis, evaluation, synthesis, compare and contrast enable students to become confident in their understanding of "All Things Reading & Writing".

Overall, my instruction style is inter/multi-cultural which surpasses all barriers related to language, gender, religion and age. I thrive on every opportunity to inspire and activate the educational seeds that enable ALL people to GROW!!!

My active and vivid imagination allows for consistent creation and use of visual aids, along with, auditory appeal and kinestetic application encourages growth and mastery of Vocabulary study, as well as close reading implementation. Consistent note-worthy STAAR results (average 85% +/-) have increased my desire to research and learn even more effective ways to help students grow in Reading and Writing. Although my professional classroom experience was primarily with middle school students, I have 10 plus years of experience tutoring High school students and Adults with an over-whelming passion for helping Senior adults gain an Undergraduate degree late in life by editing and revising college essays. My own mother was a recipient of my services in Writing which helped her successfully graduate at the age of 61 years old in 2014!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

Social Studies requires a large amount of reading and comprehension skills. As a humanities teacher, I had the privilege of co-teaching English and Social Studies. The Reading strategies I offer to my Reading students can be used across the disciplines. If a student can learn how to read using metacognition skills, he or she can then be successful at understanding, recalling, analyzing, evaluating and synthesizing information in order to successfully complete assignments and build on the new knowledge he or she obtains.

STAAR

I have taught STAAR-tested subjects for the last 4 years. I teach students to understand what is being asked of them through quick analysis and brief annotation of questions and through chunking of passages. I also teach students how to analyze pictures, graphs, and all other graphic/text features that may appear across the disciplines on any test.

I have managed to average a STAAR passing rate in Reading and Writing of 85%+/-. Student learning abilities ranged from special education to gifted/talented students. Every type of student showed growth in various topics.
