About Rachel

I am certified to teach all subjects K-5th and Mathematics grades 6th-8th (Algebra 1). Additionally, I have tutored math up to college level Algebra 1.

When I was going through my education program at Georgia Southern University, Common Core was just coming out and we were equipped with the tools to most effectively teach using the Common Core strategies.

My degree is in Education with a focus on Early Childhood (Elementary) education. I have had field experience in all of the elementary classrooms. Additionally, I began tutoring elementary school students over 10 years ago and have had a lot of experience working with young students and building a strong math foundation.

I have a strong passion for math and helping others learn skills to be successful as well! I strive to see the light bulb turn on and students to finally realize they can do it too! Please contact me to help you be a successful problem solver! I can't wait to meet you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been helping students achieve/surpass their desired scores on the ACT for years. As a certified math teacher, I am more than qualified to teach the math concepts presented on the ACT. I stay up-to-date on the most current versions of the ACT, and my students have had great success with being accepted into major universities, as a result of their ACT scores. I use the latest editions of ACT-prep material, practice tests, and strategies for helping my students succeed.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 in the classroom to 8th and 9th graders. I know the Algebra 1 TEKS and have gone to many professional development courses specifically for effective strategies in teaching this subject. This is the most popular subject I teach and I have years of experience teaching Algebra 1.

Algebra 2

I am a certified math teacher with 3 years of experience in the math classroom. I have over a decade of experience tutoring various subjects, including Algebra 2. Algebra 2 is one of my favorite subjects to teach, and I have various strategies to help learners better understand the material and succeed. I also work with teachers, parents, and students to individualize lessons to meet the students' needs.

Common Core

When I earned my degree in Education from Georgia Southern University in 2013, Common Core was just beginning its implementation. Therefore, the education program focused on providing students with tools for successful implementation of the common core state standards. Not only did I learn how to use these skills, but I was successful at implementing the common core standards into the curriculum.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold an Elementary teaching certificate in 3 states (GA, TN, TX) to teach all subjects in this field. In addition to this, I have been tutoring these ages for over a decade in a variety of subjects. I have a B.S. In Education and graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Elementary Math

I have a degree in education, with an emphasis in elementary education. I am certified to teach all elementary core subjects and have been tutoring elementary students for over a decade.

GED

I have years of experience helping students pass the GED and move on to more successful futures and enhance their education. These adult students have unique needs and are motivated to learn and succeed. Because of my degree in education and my numerous student success stories, I feel I am adequately qualified to teach GED students. Additionally, I have been working with a GED class on a weekly basis for 3 months.

General Computer

As a teacher, I have been trained on teaching students effective uses of technology. I have taken various computer courses and educational technology courses to better enhance my understanding and effectiveness with technology. Additionally, I have helped entire grade-levels "go paperless" and learn how to use technology, as well as teach effective uses of technology to their students. I have a solid foundation in general computer skills.

Geometry

I am a certified math teacher with 3 years of experience in the math classroom. I have attended a variety of professional development courses and seminars pertinent to Geometry courses. I use hands-on experiences and materials to help students visualize and better understand the concepts covered in Geometry. We work on spacial reasoning to help develop skills necessary to conceptualize Geometry.

Homeschool

I hold an Elementary teaching certificate in three states (GA, TN, TX) to teach all subjects in this field, as well as a middle school math certificate in all three states. In addition to this, I have been tutoring students Kindergarten-College level for over a decade in a variety of subjects. I have a B.S. In Education and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I am currently working in the homeschool setting with elementary students. I also provide workshops and classes for homeschool parents and students at the local library.

Prealgebra

I am certified to teach Pre-Algebra in 3 different states, including Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia. I taught Pre-Algebra in a Texas middle school in the 2015-16 school year. I have had numerous professional development in teaching this subject and feel that my expertise can benefit your student to succeed with today's Pre-Algebra Standards.

PSAT

I have been helping students achieve/surpass their desired scores on the PSAT and SAT for years. As a certified teacher, I am more than qualified to teach the concepts presented on the PSAT. I stay up-to-date on the most current versions of the PSAT, in order to ensure students with the most likely opportunity to receive National Merit recognition or qualify for specific scholarships and programs. I use the latest editions of PSAT and SAT-prep material, practice tests, and strategies for helping my students succeed.

SAT Math

I have been helping students achieve/surpass their desired scores on the SAT for years. As a certified math teacher, I am more than qualified to teach the math concepts presented on the SAT. I stay up-to-date on the most current versions of the SAT, and my students have had great success with being accepted into major universities, as a result of their SAT scores. I use the latest editions of SAT-prep material, practice tests, and strategies for helping my students succeed.

STAAR

I hold a teaching certificate in Texas to teach Elementary grades all subjects and middle school math. I have taught using the standards for the STAAR in 3 different testing subjects at the middle school level. Additionally, I have held numerous tutoring sessions to help students prepare for the STAAR. I have also participated in a variety of professional development courses that focus on best strategies for preparing students for the STAAR.

Study Skills

I have been tutoring students with practicing good study skill habits for over a decade. I use a variety of strategies and methods to help students better succeed in studying and staying organized for school. Given the right skills and suggestions, students can learn to find what works for them and become successful in their educational pursuits.
