About Leah

Hello!

I have 4 years of teaching and tutoring experience, and I'm certified 7-12 in the State of TX.

I was a classroom teacher with experience teaching English Language Arts for 6-8th grade students, Art for Elementary students, Reading Intervention for high school students, and all subjects for 4th and 5th. I have completed all the necessary trainings to work with students with dyslexia.

My students always see improvement in whatever area they are struggling in, and I like to make learning interesting in any way that I can.

I majored in English Literature, did an alternative Teacher Certification program, and have taught English and Reading Intervention.

I taught a STAAR, EOC remediation course to 11th and 12th grade students who failed the STAAR and the passing rate for students in my class was 30% higher than other similar classes in the school.

I have a very open schedule at the moment and cannot wait to schedule new tutoring clients! Please contact me with any questions, and we can talk!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to teach K-6th elementary students because I have 2 years of elementary tutoring experience in reading and math. I am a certified 7-12th ELA & Reading Teacher, and two of my jobs were at charter schools where I taught grades from K-6th in ELA, Art, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I currently tutor for 4th grade math, but am looking to tutor more elementary subjects.

Homeschool

I have worked in two charter schools that resemble home school situations. One was a school that was part of a children's home. I have taught small classes, written many units, and worked one on one with many pupils. I wrote and assembled a 6-8th grade ELA curriculum during my first year of teaching, and a 4th-5th grade curriculum for social studies and science. I enjoy using Saxon for math, and I was home schooled for a portion of my academic career and loved it!

STAAR

I taught a 9-12 grade STAAR Remediation Course at Haltom High School for students who previously failed the STAAR test. My students re-tested at the end of my class and had a 73% passing rate while the rate of other STAAR remediation courses averaged around 40% passing rate.
