About ShaLeia

I am native of Georgia, but I now live in Texas pursuing my master's degree in Voice Pedagogy. I have been tutoring for more than eight years. I have lots of experience teaching elementary students in their core subjects and I have about four years of experience of tutoring and teaching in music.

Being a humanitarian at heart, I love tutoring and teaching students because I love helping others in any and all ways possible. Having had the opportunity to help make a difference in someone's life for the better whether it be academically, emotionally, or socially through tutoring and teaching does my heart good. I remember how much confidence I gained from the extra help that I received from my teachers and family members. I want to do the same for all of those students I have the privilege to help.

The thing that I love about tutoring the most is seeing the progress. While the process may be hard or tedious along the way, the progress is almost always shadowed by the process, but there is still progress being made. To witness a student make strides academically, which can transcend into their social and emotional life is beyond rewarding. I love to help in and with the process so that the progress can be a reward to the student.

I love working with children because they learn so well and so quickly. I tutored elementary school students in English and Language while in high school and undergraduate studies. From tutoring with my local church's tutoring program to traveling to individual students' homes, I have several years of experience in tutoring.

Having been involved with school music from third grade to present, I have lots of experience in music and training. From receiving my bachelor's degree in Music Performance with a concentration in Vocal Performance, I am highly qualified to tutor in music. I am also a private music teacher for voice and piano as well as a current Voice Pedagogy MM student, so I work on my musical craft every.

I love teaching and tutoring. Having several years of experience, I would love to help any student in any way that I can. I am flexible and willing to compromise scheduling and times of tutoring sessions for those things that just may pop up. Please do not hesitate to contact me to learn about rates, times, and availability! I'd love to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

Coinciding with sight-singing, I took four semesters of ear-training while studying for my music degree. Ear training is also in the family of tonal memory; having the ability to produce back what you hear. I tutored sight-singing and ear training for three years while in college and I can submit a copy of my unofficial transcript as well my previous teacher who assigned me to tutor those subjects.

Music Theory

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance. I took and passed Music Theory and Ear Training II in undergraduate studies. I'm currently a graduate music student, which requires advanced music theory.

Piano

I am a current private piano teacher in Fort Worth, TX. I was required to take piano for two years while in my undergraduate studies and I am currently taking piano for my master's degree. I know all major and all minor scales, chord progressions, hand positions, fingerings, and other basic piano skills. I can submit an unofficial copy of my undergraduate level transcript, if needed.

Sight Singing

Having been in school choir from third grade to my present studies as a master's student, I have been sight-singing for years. While studying for my bachelor's degree, I had to take sight-singing for four semesters. As a vocalist, sight-singing is a required skill and element that we all must possess. I can send in an unofficial copy of my undergraduate degree transcript, if needed.

Study Skills

I have been tutoring elementary students for several years now. There several ways to study such as repetition, writing it down, putting it to music, making acronyms, flash cards, memory association or generalization, etc. All of these methods are more are relevant for elementary students all the way up to adults.

Voice (Music)

My undergraduate degree is in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance. I am currently a private voice teacher. I have been taking private voice for almost five years now. I can submit an unofficial copy of my degree transcript, if needed.
