About Sherrie

My love of teaching comes from my life long love of learning and helping others. I have taught students for over 10 years as a GED instructor and as an instructor at the community college and university levels. It has been my privilege to help high school students, college students, and adult learners to achieve their academic goals. I know how hard work and dedication can pay off.

I have a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling. I worked as a career and guidance counselor for three years. In that capacity, I tutored students in admissions tests and proctored the ACT/SAT. I assisted in writing college entrance essays, arranged campus tours, and provided general academic and vocational guidance. I also administered and interpreted interest inventories including the MBTI and RIASEC.

In addition to college guidance and counseling, I specialize in teaching social sciences including psychology, sociology, criminal justice, and counseling. I also have a background in English/Language Arts and Writing as well as test preparation (GED, SAT, and ACT). My goal is to keep you challenged and engaged, but not overwhelmed. I will assign homework and provide periodic progress assessments. I maintain an office in Fort Worth, but I am also happy to travel to another location if it is more convenient.

I have been studying and teaching psychology, counseling, criminal justice, and sociology for many years while working full time in the criminal justice system, higher education, and healthcare facilities.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to achieve success in your studies.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My Master of Education degree is in Guidance and Counseling. I worked as the career and guidance counselor for at delinquent youth for the Colorado Department of Corrections for three years. In that capacity, I conducted vocational/interest inventory testing and provided career counseling and general guidance.

I have taught at the college level for many years and offered my services as an editor and proofreader to students and colleagues preparing papers and manuscripts. I view written language as a skill and would be pleased to help you master that skill.

Psychology

I love the subject of psychology and have spent my adult academic career and my work life in the field of mental health and psychology. In addition to teaching General Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Social Psychology, and Psychology of Human Sexuality at Pueblo Community College in Pueblo Colorado for over eight years, I have also worked in psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities, and private practice.
