Texas A & M University - Commerce (Global ELearning and Music)
I am a recent graduate from Texas A&M University - Commerce. I majored in Global ELearning and minored in music. My music classes consisted of everything from music theory to ear training, to music ensembles and more. I play clarinet and have for 14 years. For the longest time, I wanted to be a math teacher which explains the few upper level math classes that reside on my resume. I have taken Calculus I and II, and Elementary Math for teachers while in college and Geometry, Precalculus, Algebra, Statistics, and Calculus I in high school.
My teaching style is one-on-one rather than a group setting. I feel like it is easier to get a point across when it is a teacher and only one student. I have always been able to see multiple perspectives and provide a variety of explanations for one problem/equation. I have taught private lessons for about 5 years and have tutored since I was in high school. Teaching is one of my passions. I get excited when other succeed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played clarinet for 8 complete years and am working on my 9th year. I have competed against the top Eb clarinet players in the state of Texas and have receive 1st and 2nd chair in the All State Band during my last two years of high school. I have always done exceptionally well on my solos in contests. Although I have only been in college for three semesters, I have always been in the top band. I take clarinet playing seriously and am very good at getting others to produce the sound they want.
Being a music major in college, I have to take these music history classes. I really enjoy hearing about the history of music and the things that went on during the life of popular composers. I ended up getting an A in that class last semester. This semester I am taking my first Music History class and am loving it. It's easy to understand and easy to learn. It is definitely one of my favorite classes so far.
All throughout my schooling, my parents have ingrained very useful study skills that have helped me get into the National Honor Society in High School, get academic scholarships to college, become a member in the Honors College at SHSU, and then make the Dean's List almost every semester I have been in college. I feel like my parents' expectations and forceful nature about study really helped me. I would like to help someone excel like I have.
