Seton Hall University (Enrolled)
Hello! My name is Amanda and I am currently attending Texas Christian University for my PhD in English literature. I have recently completed my Master's in English Lit at Seton Hall University. I have taught English abroad and have experience working with children from 6-18 years old as well as adults. I have tutored SAT/ACT prep and I mainly tutor language arts topics but I also have a degree in Biology so this is available as well. As far as my teaching methods go I believe that all children can learn with structure and a plan that is custom built for their needs. All children learn differently and I am dedicated to discovering the way in which your child learns best. Not only do I want to help them with whichever area they may struggling with but I also want to help them discover methods to help them learn throughout their life.

Amanda has met with my H.S age daughter I think 4 times and has helped her tremendously!! I can't tell you how much my daughter has improved in all her writing skills, world history, and English. Her confidence in her writing skills is so wonderful to see. Amanda is really really good and very smart, but most of all she is great at teaching. My daughter has made 100 on her last two Pre AP World History Essay tests. I am so happy I picked Amanda! Thanks Amanda!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
From August to January 2010- 2011 I was employed as a substitute teacher. During this time I spent 6 weeks teaching 5th and 6th grade, 9 weeks teaching 1st grade, and many other weeks teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. At the end of January I moved out of the country and have been teaching children ages 9 to 14 since then. I have experience working with these children in all subjects from English to Science.
I spent 6 months in the Republic of Georgia teaching English to children from ages 8 to 18, especially focusing on speaking. I taught first grade with children for whom English was a second language, helping especially with reading and spelling.
