Experienced and highly qualified tutor
I love teaching and especially private tutoring as it gives me the possibility to invest more and focus more on fewer students at a time. I have several years of experience in tutoring/teaching foreign languages (French, Spanish and ESL), English grammar and writing. Most of my tutoring/teaching has been done in Europe and Africa. I have taught in private, small groups; I've taught preschool, primary school, high school and I also taught at University, MA level. I have experience as well in teaching adults and seniors. I am a high school language teacher in Mid Cities for the past 3 years.
I have studied child psychology and I have thoroughly studied and research many teaching methodologies (including my final BA thesis/dissertation which was in teaching methodology). After several years of trying different methods I now use just a few teaching approaches although most of the time it is a creative combination of several. I use the Natural Approach, the Communicative Language Teaching Approach and Total Physical Response all combined, at times, with Audio-visual aids. But, most important, when I teach, I look at each individual and his/her specific needs and learning abilities and I focus on those and using those I bring out the best of each student.
I have a BA in foreign languages (ESL included) and a Master in linguistics and theology. I have a college diploma in theology and another one in cross-cultural studies. I have worked almost 3 years as a linguist in Africa.
I love sharing my skills and knowledge with my students, I love to see them grow and improve and along the way I enjoy learning and improving myself.
Camelia hasn’t set a schedule.
Miracles can happen so quickly!
My daughter, Nadia, was struggling with her Spanish class to the tune of a borderline "D" average. Not wanting my child to fail, I seeked out tutoring and came across Camelia through WyzAnt. Camelia was truly a blessing! Nadia struggled at first, as she had been doing all year, but Camelia was able to help Nadia grasp on to the curriculum in a way I've never seen my daughter do before. With the help of these tutoring sessions, Nadia's average went from a "D" average to the A-B average range. I was not expecting such a big turnaround. Any improvement so that my daughter would not fail would've been a welcomed one. What we got was above and beyond--a miracle. NatashaNatasha, 7 lessons with Camelia
Camelia conducted a review of French conversation after I hadn’t used it in 3 years. The review was essential for a new business job I interviewed for where French was essential. Camelia was patient and provided a good warm up and resources to improve my French on my own. Highly recommend her.Shaun , 1 lesson with Camelia
Knowledgeable, kind and very encouraging.
Camelia helped me prepare for an interview that I have coming up in French. She gave me great tips that have increased my confidence in speaking. I look forward to using her again to help me prepare for my certification exam..Dawn, 1 lesson with CameliaTutor responded:

A Language Guru!
I chose Camelia to be my English tutor from a group of 6 tutors that my boyfriend and I met with. It was the correct choice! She is an talented English teacher, with over 20 years of teaching experience. In our first meeting, she used her years of experience and teaching resources to test my skills and determine my level in the language. At the end of the lesson she presented the curriculum that she would be covering over the coming weeks and gave me practice sheets to work on in the time between our next meeting. Every lesson was thoughtfully prepared and organized, with a consistent structure. Camelia presents the topics we are to cover, uses interactive activities to practice the target, tests for comprehension, and gives practice sheets to strengthen understanding. She even took me shopping to practice a specific grammar skill! She is an excellent option for anyone looking to learn English.Jeremy, 8 lessons with CameliaTutor responded:
Thank you so much Jeremy, I really appreciate your feedback and love the fact that she liked it and learned something that she can take with her. Good luck for the future.
A good start!
My daughter enjoyed her first lesson with Camelia and is looking forward to the next one. It will take a while to assess progress, but I am pleased with the good start.Beverly, 3 lessons with Camelia
Cami has been a wonderful tutor for my daughter for French. She is very professional and patiently works with the student using a variety of methods that keep the student engaged.
