Howdy! My name is Jonathan. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University, where I got my BS in Applied Mathematics. I began tutoring 9 years ago, starting with a position at The Tutoring Center in Texas and eventually going into freelance work and working as a teaching fellow while a student at Texas A&M University for both the mathematics and physics departments. Currently I teach high school mathematics in Broward County, Florida.

My tutoring style employs the Socratic method. I ask probing questions, encouraging students to think critically about problem solving and therefore learn the material as opposed to just memorizing it. This way they retain the knowledge after putting it down on an exam paper, and remain prepared and confident for final exams and future coursework.

I treat Mathematics as a foreign language course, because it is. The only difference between the language of the physical universe and those spoken by people is the alphabet: it uses numbers instead of letters. When students learn it through that lens, they understand it better and make connections between concepts they never saw before.

I am available most times during the week after school, and weekends. I can tutor virtually on zoom, at home, coffee shops, libraries, or another place of the student's choosing. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you reach your potential!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I've tutored algebra 2 for three years, the longest of any subject.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have been enrolled in college-leveled engineering calculus courses for the past year, and have been tutoring calculus for two years. Like all my subjects, I teach by using probing questions to force the student to think critically about the material so they may learn rather than just memorize. This is necessary for calculus because it is very concept based; one cannot get by merely by memorizing formulas and plugging numbers into them. I teach my students to see the big picture of the field while they learn individual parts such as series or differentiation so they not only get good grades, but also learn and appreciate the subject.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have taken college calculus 1, 2, and 3 and have been teaching precalculus for 3 years.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have tutored ACT and SAT math for a year. I also have taken the exams recently, getting perfect scores on both sections, so I know what to inform the students to anticipate. I teach them not only what math is going to be on the exam, but how to take the exams how they are given.

Very knowledgeable and made concepts easy

The first lesson was exceptional. Helped to focus and identify which areas needed additional study. After working together turned in best homework grade this year.

Great teacher and very accomodating

Jonathan came to tutor my son in Calculus at the last minute on a holiday weekend. He was knowledgeable, an effective teacher, and very pleasant to deal with in every way. I could not recommend him more highly!

Patient Geometry Tutor

Jonathan helped my daughter with her Geometry review. He was great and patient in how he explained things. My daughter said it's easy when someone takes the time to explain it in steps! We will be meeting Jonathan again.
