About Shannon

I am a recently retired K-12 (primarily secondary) public school teacher. I have a proven success rate with my students on State and Pre-Collegiate testing. I have worked in very diverse schools teaching all levels in the Sciences, as an Administrator, a Testing Coordinator, a District Curriculum Writer, a Professional Development Trainer, an RtI Coordinator, a Credit Recovery Coordinator, and a Teacher Coach/Mentor.

I have a perfect track record where all of my evaluations beginning with my student teaching years have never been less than Superior (the best rating possible). I love working directly with children where I can watch them grow and succeed. There is no better feeling when you see your students get that "ah ha" moment. I wish to continue working with primarily Secondary and Pre-Collegiate students toward their success into graduation and post-secondary education. I believe every child has the capacity to learn and achieve success with the right methods and differentiation in place. I am a master at differentiation and specifically tailoring lessons and activities toward a students individualized learning style. My years of working in education prove my success rate. My expansive levels of degrees earned and in progress demonstrate my own personal passion as a life long learner. I am very excited to begin work with your children and watch them grow and succeed as I have watched from many of my previous students for a decade. Thank you for reading my story.

I have a minor in Mathematics and maintained a 4.0 in all Math and Stastics courses taken during my college years.

My passion is in the Sciences. I have a B.S. in Biology with a Human Emphasis where I have extensive knowledge of all biological sciences and particularly excell in Genetics. I acquired my degrees as a pre-requisite for Medical School. I decided on career choice #2 because I was very good at educating College Students (much to my surprise) in a laboratory setting. Medical School would require too much time away from my family; therefore, I graciously declined my acceptances into Medical Schools and pursued my Masters Degrees in Curriculum and Instruction (secondary sciences) with an emphasis (almost a secondary Masters Degree) in Environmental Sciences.

As stated I am a dedicated master teacher. I can effectively differentiate lessons to tailor your particular learning styles and guarantee success given hard work, dedication, and an open mind to a variety of teaching styles. Be ready for success, no more stresses to pass your hardest classes or prepare for those stressful examinations. I am here for you until we reach your desired result. I don't give up, I simply change my ways. I am patient and will work with children at their own paces (or until a deadline) and guarantee a fun, committed, caring learning environment.

Very Sincerely,
Mrs. Shannon B.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I have a B.S. in Biology with a Human Emphasis. Genetics and Advanced Genetics were requirements of my major with emphasis. I excelled in both courses in college and my current HS students excel on this section on State Exams as related to their peers. It is honestly my favorite subject (anatomy being my second favorite) and I know the content extremely well. I can break down the material very well for better understanding of the content for my students. I can make what seems to be a very difficult subject fun and easy to understand. I frequently use analogies and hands on activities for a more in depth understanding. It's an abstract content and can be intimidating. I can break it down in ways that my students just "get it." Plus, it's my absolute favorite unit to teach...it's fascinating and I can make it fun and related to their real life experiences.
