I have over 25 years of teaching English and psychology at the college undergraduate level. Most of this experience has been with students whose natural abilities are mathematics, computer science, engineering or related technical majors. Also, I have more than 10 years of teaching English as a second language to students and professionals. I adapt my teaching to the individual needs and goals of the student and seek to establish a good rapport where students gain confidence about their English skills in reading, grammar and writing. I am committed to the growth and well being of each student and will work with you to support your vision for your life journey.
I enjoy working with international students and currently teach ESL classes in my community. Also, I currently tutor high school students in writing and reading along with preparation for the ACT and SAT English portions of these exams.
For fun I enjoy designing costumes in local theaters and have spent one semester in NYC at the Fashion Institute of Technology along with taking several courses in fashion design from Texas Woman's University. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a foreign student advisor in an intensive language school. My job included finding colleges for international students to attend while they learned English. Later, I performed academic counseling at DeVry University for students seeking to complete their degrees or change majors.
As an undergraduate I took History of Theater for two semesters, modern drama and community theater. In the 1990's I went back to Texas Woman's University and took fashion design courses. After this, I became a costume designer at ICT/Mainstage in Irving and co-designed costumes for Northlake College with Tory Padden. I have also served on the Play Selection committee for ICT/Mainstage, a local theater group.
