I am a legal permanent resident in the U.S.A.I am SBEC certified as a Generalist EC-6, Generalist 4-8 and Special Education EC-12. How I wish to make use of my time in my field of expertise tutoring students. In this way, I will be able to help them academically. Tutoring will also develop social skills between my tutees and me because each of us may be with different cultures and upbringing. I could say that I am proud that my four children have been imbibing excellent behavior because not one of them became deviant. Therefore, I want my tutees to be like them because as a teacher, one becomes in "loco parentis." I want them treated just like my own children; that they, too, would grow and develop excellently in terms of behavior. When they are academically prepared coupled with the kind of behavior we want them to possess, they can be let independently responsible to the demands of the environment they would go to in the course of their lifetime. If that's the case for these would be tutees of mine, I probably could not ask for more for they would surely contribute to the continuing progress first and foremost of their country, the U.S.A. and the whole world. I have experience tutoring elementary pupils and foreign students in their tertiary level. So as a tutor, try me.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the Philippine Normal College (now University), Manila, Philippines in 1971. This degree covers the preschool up to the sixth grade of the elementary school. After graduation I started applying my knowledge as an assistant teacher in San Lorenzo School, Makati City, Philippines catering to multicultural preschool children in a summer class. The following regular school year, I taught as an English Language teacher to sixth graders in Notre Dame of Manila, a private school exclusive for boys. Afterwards I ventured teaching in different public schools in the Philippines where I had opportunities teaching different levels of learners like preschoolers, grades one to six pupils, and even special children particularly, the slow learners and the mentally retarded. It is because in the Division of City Schools, Manila where I taught in one of its public schools, a Special Education Center is located even to this day and I was lucky enough to give service to such special learners then, although I taught in the elementary level for almost two decades. These teaching experiences made me richer in my field of training. As a teacher, one has to remain a student in order to keep oneself updated with the latest trends. I therefore furthered my studies by taking up a Master of Arts in Special Education, a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology and even a law degree. All of these added to my being equipped as a teacher in the elementary level and even in higher levels with the principle of "once a teacher, always a teacher."

Study Skills

Teachers must be able to impart whatever knowledge one can impart. Study skills are part of this knowledge and included in study skills are use of the library, note taking, comprehension, preparing for examinations, and researching, to name the most important ones. Though the library has been a component of every school, its content can now be transported to the home, to one's place of work, or anywhere because of modern technology. Before one can use the modern technology regarding a library, one has to know the library basics like the classification of books, where to find them in a library and how to borrow and use them. When one has already borrowed books, note taking comes in. It is very important how one takes down notes from reading materials just like how one does it while the teacher is explaining concepts. More useful is note taking when researching, too. What one takes down, where one has to take them down and how to take them down to make easy access when needed are likewise as important. On the other hand, comprehension is very necessary to be able to answer questions about anything in one's studies because being able to answer anything is really part of good performance in school. When one has good comprehension he is considered prepared for examinations. So we can consider that every part of study skills is interconnected with the others. Having mastered the different study skills components leads every student to being successful in one's studies. In the case of this tutor, she has taught her students study skills in all the levels that came upon her tutelage. She also applies study skills in her own endeavors as a teacher and will apply such while she is in the profession.
