I was born in Mexico City and came to the U.S. about 25 years ago. I have been teaching Spanish (all levels, Native and Non-Native students) for 20 years in a row. I have taught in different High Schools, and currently, this will be my 5th year in a middle school in El Paso, TX. I love teaching because I'm able to empower my students to use the language as a tool to fulfill their goals.
My classes in the middle school are very dynamic (because of the "nature" of my students, I don't see a better way to grab their attention :)) I incorporate a lot of conversation, acting, showing/telling, gesturing, drawing, playing games, etc. I find that the more comfortable my students are acquiring the language, the better. I tailor my classes and/or tutoring to my students' individual needs, personalities and learning styles.
Also, I have tutored adults in Austin,TX as well as here in El Paso. Being a very flexible, patient and seasoned teacher has helped me a lot in understanding the different needs and personality of my adult students in order to be able to focus my sessions on their needs, NOT mine.
I have experience teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) as well. I was recently a volunteer teaching ESL to some Cuban refugees in El Paso. If you gave me the opportunity to work with you or your son/daughter, most likely you won't be disappointed. Thank You for your time. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a Spanish teacher for 21 years.
Swimming has been the only sport I have practiced constantly since I was little. When I was studying my career, I was in the swimming team at my college. I know the 4 styles perfectly, I love to teach how to swim and I am VERY patient.
Also, I had several jobs as a swimming instructor to any ages when I was young, back in Mexico City.
