About Elizabeth

My love of teaching is a large part of who I am. I firmly believe that everyone has the ability to meet all of their goals once they are given the right tools. As someone who has spent over ten years in the classroom, I know that everyday there is an opportunity for everyone to learn something new. Tutoring is rewarding because when you are able to give a student more individual attention, lessons will be that much more tailored to fit their needs. Recognizing students' strengths and weaknesses is critical to helping them achieve both short and long-term goals, as well as helping them develop a love for learning.

I have spent over ten years teaching social studies in a high school setting. I have helped students not only pass state exams, but AP exams as well. In my mind, the key to developing academic success in social studies and success in life is the ability to think critically. I believe in focusing on identifying key themes, vocabulary, and universal concepts that will help a student think critically and be able to express themselves in discussions, presentations, and through their writing.

I am generally available for tutoring after 5 pm on weekdays and from 9-1 on Saturdays. My rate is $40/hour for both in-person and online. I can travel to students or correspond online as needed. I am looking forward to hearing from you and helping you to meet your academic goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
