Arizona State University/ New Mexico State University (Civil Engineering)
I am currently an undergraduate student at New Mexico State University (NMSU) seeking a B.S. in Civil Engineering. I transferred from El Paso Community College (EPCC). I was enrolled in New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation in the Undergraduate Research Assistant-ship program. The research projects I participated was on the field of Environmental Engineering. During my first project, I worked with Galderia Sulphuraria, fresh water algae, in order to clean wastewater and produce biofuel. Then, I worked in a project that consisted in the use of zeolites to remove heavy metals from water at a lower cost. This field of study is of great interest me, because I want to protect the environment, and work in projects that include the new tendency of “green buildings.”
While I was EPPC, I worked as a Math Tutor for one year helping resent high school graduates or people coming back to school after several years. I never thought I would like to tutor, but I found it very satisfying. There were two things I loved the most. First, the happiness of the student when he understood the subject or learned an easier way to do the math. Second, students coming back to the center not for help, but to thank me because their grades improved.
Engineering students eat and breath math. I have had several classes which prepare me to be a tutor. I can help with algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus 1 2 & 3, differential equations, and linear algebra. I am able to teach those and anything below. Also, as a consequence of taking those courses I am getting a minor in Math.
I offer you my patience, knowledge and a year of experience as a math tutor. Just remember that this is a team work, you wont learn if you are not willing to. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a year of experience as a tutor at EPCC.
I haven't teach such young students, for normally I have tutor high school students and returning students after several years. I was a tutor at EPCC for one year
