About Bethuel

Teaching has always been my passion. I love helping people understand concepts and improve themselves through education. I have had many opportunities to teach as an instructor which shaped my teaching. Through this experience, I worked one on one with students in whatever subject they struggled in. When one of my students finally understood a difficult concept, I loved seeing how his or her countenance changed. Their eyes would light up and the most pleased smile spread across their faces. That moment of understanding is priceless. I remember one such moment in particular when my third year student completed a given task on his own, the assignment I thought no student could do alone. He was so proud of himself and smiled as he showed his peers what he accomplished, and I smiled along with him.

First, I believe all students have the capacity to learn and progress. Every student can learn and improve if they apply themselves. I want to help them realize their potential by inviting to improve. I will challenge my students, but also work with them to help them meet their educational goals. At the beginning, I will help my students come up with a personal educational improvement goal. I will, over the course of the year, find ways for them to meet their goal. The student will ultimately be responsible for his or her success, but I will assist him or her along the way. I think that if they get to set some of their educational goals, they will be more energized to learn.

Second, I value critical thinking. I will encourage my students to think critically about what they study and share their discoveries. Far too often, people fall into the trap of accepting what is written as the authority on any given topic simply because it is printed; or, they simply accept the opinion of an authority figure when they have no opinion of their own. I want to encourage my students from the very beginning of their education to analyze what they read and hear-- to ask questions of presented information and to see if what they find fits into or differs from what they believe or know about the world. These skills will help them make better choices and help boost their self confidence. Through critical study, I hope that my student will develop well-informed opinions about the world around them.

Third, I value and respect creativity. I want to encourage my student to think creatively because I believe that allowing them to connect with material in their own unique ways helps them as well as their classmates- understand concepts better. Students bring so much life and imagination to a class room and their individuality allows for diverse ideas and modes of expression. Their unique ways of viewing the world and subject matter can illuminate new ideas about what we are studying.
Currently I am a PhD research graduate associate. I taught several physics, physical sciences, and All math (precalculus and calculus) as a Teaching Assistant. Over five years, I taught physics and engineering courses at the college level and also Mathematics, physics, and chemistry at high school. I feel that my strengths as an educator in general are that I relate to and understand my students, and encourage them to do better and be better because I honestly believe they can be.

I am able to adapt my teaching techniques to best suit students’ diverse needs. I want all of my students to know that I care about them and will do everything I can to help them succeed. Teaching is so exciting because each group of students brings something interesting and new to the class and I hope to harness that eclectic power into a healthy learning environment.

I can teach Physics, Algebra, Calculus, and ODE.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
