Hello there! I am Nadia. I am just beginning with WyzAnt and I cannot wait to help my students with their French adventure.

Hello there! I am Nadia. I am just beginning with WyzAnt and I cannot wait to help my students with their French adventure.

I was born in Haiti, I speak French, English and Haitian-Creole. I consider myself as very proficient in French. I attended schools in Haiti all the way to University where I graduate from the University of Haiti with a degree in Latin American and International Languages, focused in French and Spanish. All my schooling in Haiti was done using the French language.

I always wanted to be a teacher, I love learning and helping others learn. I enjoy connecting with students and watching them develop their skills. I get a lot of satisfaction seeing students grow, watching them gain confidence, and helping them connect with their intellectual side.

I have taught French, English as a Second Language (ESL), writing, grammar, and cultural studies, encompassing social studies, history, and folklore, at the high-school and college levels.

As a private tutor, I have worked with students on essay writing, research methods, reading comprehension, test preparation, French. I also do freelance work in educational publishing--writing and editing material for student textbooks, teachers editions, test preparation manuals, and online courses.
I believe in student-centered education. I ask a lot of questions, especially in the beginning, to get an idea of a student's needs and interests. I then aim to guide students, rather than put words in their mouths.
I try to encourage my students, so that they come away feeling proud of themselves and able to use what they've learned in future classes and work.

These days, I volunteer with a group that supports kids and teens in foster care and I also on the board of a small nonprofit school for children in Haiti.
