About Diana

I worked as a Peer Leader for the Entering Student Program at the University of Texas at El Paso from 2008 to 2009. This program offers the UNIV 1301 class to all freshmen students in order to help them transition from high school to college. As a Peer Leader, I aided instructors with the class by taking attendance, organizing discussions and meeting one to one with the students.
I did my internship at El Dorado High School with History teacher Adan Corrález in 2010. I was a student teacher for the American History class that he taught to 11th graders. I co-taught the class on a number of occasions and helped Mr. Corrález with teaching related activities (grading, taking attendance, speaking to students one to one, etc.) After that I became a substitute teacher for the Socorro Independent School District and have been ever since.

I taught two Creative Writing classes in 2014 at the University of Texas at El Paso. I taught college juniors and seniors the basics of two literary genres: poetry and fiction. I was in charge of creating lesson plans, selecting readings, organizing discussions, grading creative work, workshopping student’s assignments and providing feedback.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing which was a Bilingual program in which among other things I dedicated to the analysis, reading and writing of literature.

I am a Native Spanish speaker and have lived in El Paso, Texas for 9 years. However, all my education prior to college was entirely in Spanish. It might also be worth mentioning that my thesis for my MFA degree was written in that language.

I consider myself to be very adaptable when it comes to teaching. I have taught more than one subject, and I have worked with students of different age groups. I would never engage on a teaching/tutoring assignment that I didn't feel qualified to do. My commitment is to take advantage of the time that as teachers and students is available to us in order for students to excel at their highest potential.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
