About Deborah

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Central Washington University in Edmonds, Washington. I am a graduate of Andress High School and attended UTEP for two years before relocating to Washington state. I have always liked learning and now enjoy tutoring. I am a tutor at El Paso Community College and have the opportunity to tutor everything from math to music. It's very rewarding.

I know that anyone seeking a tutor is serious about succeeding. Helping you reach your goal is what I want to do. I like to make learning fun. The students I tutor have been pleased with the way I tutor and have come back to receive tutoring with different classes each semester.

I have a Masters level certification from the College Reading and Learning Association.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I tutor Algebra I and II on a regular basis and have also helped students prepare for the SAT and ACT exams.

ASVAB

I have the knowledge and experience tutoring the math which is tested in the ASVAB. I tutor Algebra at the Community College and have tutored the ASVAB also.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored grades 8 and above for over three years. I would introduce the tutee to the survey, question, read, reflect and review method of reading texts. I would contact the school district to obtain a scope and sequence so I could cover material the student is working on during the semester. I would access the students skills at the beginning to know if there are areas that need extra attention to bring the student to the level that is being covered currently.

Financial Accounting

I have a Bachelors degree with a major in accounting.

Managerial Accounting

I have a Bachelors degree with a major in accounting.

STAAR

I am a Master level tutor with the College Reading and Learning Association. I have five years tutoring experience at 7th grade and above. I can assist the student in understanding math and help them extract important information from reading materials.

Study Skills

I have assisted students with study skills at El Paso Community College for 4 years. I have a Master level certification from the College Reading and Learning Association. I am able to show students techniques to improve their comprehension and retention of study materials.

TAKS

I am familiar with the objectives tested on the TAKS exit level math exam. I would assess the students knowledge by having them complete a previous TAKS exam and then review the principles that need work. I would continue to test and review until the student is proficient in all objectives needed to pass the exam.
