My name is George. I attended Jefferson High School and then entered Texas Western College(now The University of Texas at El Paso). I started my teaching career in l969 and retired in 2000. In my 31 year career I taught just about every subject except P.E. and Fine Arts. I graduated in l969 with a B.A. degree and I have my Texas Teaching Certificate. In 2006 I worked for about 6 months with the Clint Independent School District as a math tutor. This job was specifically geared to get students ready for their TAKS Tests. Out of 22 students that I tutored, 18 passed their TAKS with and score of 80 or better, and one student got a commended score.

Towards the last ten years of my career the school I taught at became departmentalized and I chose Math as my core subject. I was the unofficial head of the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade math department at my school(Roosevelt Elementary School in the El Paso Independent School District). I also taught at the following schools-Cooley School(8yrs.), Terrace Hills(1 year), Guillen Middle School(4 years) and the aforementioned Roosevelt School(19 Years).

After retiring, I did not work for 2 years and just took time to relax and do things that I could not do while I was working. I applied for a substituting position with the Ysleta I.S.D. in 2002 and have been working with them up to this point. I also substitute with the Socorro ISD.

Math is a subject that I always enjoyed teaching. My students always performed well in the assessment Tests and I like to think that it was my preparation that was responsible for their success. I have many materials to assist me in preparing students and in bringing them up to or above grade level.

My first course of action would be to assess the student to see where he/she is in terms of strengths and weaknesses. I would also confer with the students' teacher to see where the student is in his/her math readiness.

I have an easygoing personality and my main strength is that I am able to transfer my knowledge of the subject area to my s
