Hello, I look forward to assisting you in your individual tutoring needs. I know that together we can work as a team and tackle any assignment that you are given.
I like to think of assignments as an adventure. An adventure that can be challenging and at the same time fun. I think learning should be enjoyable and should spark a desire for the pursuit of life-long learning. The tutor and student relationship is very important and I understand the importance of building a rapport with those that I tutor.
I have worked in the public school system and also in the school department at a detention center. I have worked with a variety of students with various educational levels. I have also worked as a Teacher Aide/ Interpreter. In this particular role I was a sign language interpreter that assisted deaf children during their school day. In my last job I was a Speech Language Pathologist- Assistant, in this position I provided speech services to young clients. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During the time I was employed as a teacher aide and an SLP-Assistant I worked with kids on their penmanship. For example the formation of letter , the height of the letters and the spacing between each letter. We used letter templates to aid them in this skill.
I have worked with students who are hearing impaired and I have taken several sign language courses. I found that as an interpreter I did a lot of clarifying of information and directions that were given by the teacher. I also had a course in Audiology.
I have always enjoyed being an avid reading, helping students become readers and helping my own son learn to read.
