About Jasmine

My name is Jasmine G., and my tutoring style is pretty direct. For the past three years, I had been volunteer tutoring for subjects like Pre-Calculus, Algebra I and II, Trigonometry, and Geometry. I've been making sure that all concepts are visited and mastered through solving problems and that every step involved in obtaining an answer is completely comprehended. I like to break things down and I want my students to understand why the answer is what it is.

Math is the gateway to so many other disciplines, but it is also the foundation for logical thinking and resourcefulness in approaching any of life's obstacles. I want all of my students to understand that.

I do my best to reach as many audiences as I can. I am fluent in both Portuguese and Spanish, so I am willing to explain things in a language that may be more suitable. Being a certified to tutor in these languages as well, my teaching style entails a very hands on approach through, mainly through conversation. Grammar is essential, especially when dealing with a language like Portuguese, but I want my students to be able to carry on a decent conversation with any native language speaker. I lived in Brazil for 4 years, and maintain close relationships with everyone I meet, so my Portuguese has more of an Amazonian accent. My Spanish is also very South American, even though I mastered it in the Dominican Republic. I know that my students would take with them the conviction of being versed in another language.

Tutoring children and adolescents with special needs has been one of my specialties for almost 5 years. As a behavior interventionist and academic tutor, my methods involve a lot of positive reinforcement. I believe that building up the confidence in my students inspires interest and motivation to explore areas that might seem more challenging to them.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I took this a few years back, and I remember gradually studying up until a week before the test... Then, I just crammed it all into one night.

Algebra 1

I took this in 6th grade when I was being home schooled. I hated it and thought it was just a bunch of gibberish. When I finally solved my first real algebra problem, it became an addiction and I had to go back for more!

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is twice as fun! First and second year chemistry go hand-in-hand with this one!

Elementary Math

Getting through the basics will be so rewarding, because you'll finally get to do all of the fun stuff.

Master this and you could travel the world, teaching English in other countries.

As a third year Electrical Engineering student, I am extremely familiar with Algebra-based Physics as well as Calculus-based Physics. I have received A's in both Algebra-based Physics I and II as well as Physics for Scientists and Engineers I.

Portuguese is commonly used in Portugal and regions in Africa. It's even more of a valuable tool these days, because Brazil is a developing nation and moving up the totem pole.

This one is kind of an important introduction to the more complex stuff... Unless, you're that kind of person who goes sky diving before bungee jumping.

You can't really go any further unless you truly understand all of Precalc. It lays a great foundation for Calculus, Business Calculus, and Linear Algebra.

Spanish was my first language- it's the key to so many opportunities.

I totally suggest taking this subject with a Physics course. I like to use a lot of applications in Physics for this subject.

A word a day keeps the brain cobwebs away.

Great job! — Jasmine did a great job. Although we've only had one tutoring session, I look forward to more! My daughter said she did an excellent job of explaining the math processes and is looking forward to more tutorials. ...
