About Marshall

I began as a lover of the printed page. Originally, I was a Liberal Arts major who enjoyed reading in my spare time. However, through English courses, I realized that I had a talent and fascination with writing and revising.

I enjoyed reading so much that I went back to school and became an English major at Castleton State College in Vermont. Immediately, I knew that reading and writing essays was the right choice for me. I graduated magna cum laude and spoke at the Vermont Academic Student Symposium (in 2011) where I presented my essay based on two different romantic works by Edgar Allan Poe and Ralph Waldo Emerson. After graduating and receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Literature, I went on to study at the Bread Loaf School of English in the mountains of central Vermont. It's there where I continue to study as a graduate student each summer.

Admittedly, I do not have much experience as a tutor. However, I am certainly capable and qualified to be a tutor. I am a student, but I am one on a graduate level, and I hope to gain experience in tutoring. I have taken both an argumentative writing course and a grammar course at a college level. Moreover, I have worked with tutors as a "student" which I still consider myself to be. I'm not sure I will ever stop calling myself a student of writing, but I am ready and capable to start calling myself a teacher.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
