Hi, my name is Greg, and I’m here to help you.
If you are reading this, I can assume that either you, or someone you love, is struggling in the areas of reading and writing or having problems with grammar and vocabulary.
I am a retired career librarian with an undergraduate degree in English and a Master’s degree in Library Science. I have a lifetime of reading and writing experience behind me.
Learning to read well is a joy and learning to write well becomes fun once you get over your fear. I will teach you how to enjoy the process.
Whether you are trying to study for a test, or just need help improving your reading, or getting that homework paper written, I can help you.
Also, I am a guitarist and have been playing for over 40 years. If you’ve always wanted to learn guitar, now is always the best time to get started. Your playing will improve much more rapidly with a teacher to guide you. I can start you with the basics and take you through the intermediate level. Along the way, I will teach you ear training, get you started reading music, and help you with rhythm, timing, and general musicianship.
Sometimes you just need a little help! If you are looking for a teacher who is patient, as well as persistent and passionate about helping you move forward, give me a call.
Thanks for reading my profile. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Grammar,

Grammar

Grammar is a challenge for many of us. Even with a college degree in English, I find myself having to stop and think about the correct usage of a word or words in a sentence. I think American English must be very confusing to foreigners; we use so much slang nowadays, and many words mean the opposite of what they traditionally meant.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have an undergraduate degree is English because I admire the written word. I enjoy the discipline it takes to be a good proofreader. I also have a natural bent for finding editing errors in writing.

Reading

I have an undergraduate degree in English and a master's degree in Library Science. Reading (and writing) has been a vital part of my profession. But beyond that, reading is also something I like to do because it's fun. For a good reader, the world of knowledge is wide open. I want to pass this skill along to any student who is struggling, and help them learn to enjoy their accomplishments and well as the process of learning.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Being an English major, I believe in the power of words. I also love to play with words. My family and I often compete to see who can make the best pun on a word. We often use our large Webster's dictionary to look up unfamiliar words, especially when we play Scrabble, which is one of our favorite games.

My undergraduate degree is in English, with a minor in European Studies. The required course work included reading many works of literature and history, and writing numerous papers demonstrating my grasp of the assigned material. My career over the last twenty five years as a librarian has also given me the opportunity to read in various subjects. I write regular book reviews and blog posts. Assisting library customers with questions about reading and writing is a daily part of my job.

Writing

While earning my undergraduate degree in English, I had to write many kinds of papers. I have experience writing persuasive essays, comparison/contrast and descriptive essays, among others. Working towards a master's degree in Library Science, I was required to write a number research papers. As a librarian (now retired) part of my job involved writing and submitting blog posts about books and events that were happening at the library.

Very Patient

The first tutoring session was just to get to know my grandson and assess his reading level. He had ideas on how to work with him in future session on improving his reading level and comprehension.

Great tutor!

Greg has beenough a great tudor! He's easy to get a hold of and is willing to come when we need him. He has been a huge help. My son is 14 and struggling in English. He loves working with Greg and always has good things to say about working with him. He is confident that his grades will improve since he has been helping him. We definitely recommend him to other kids needing some one on one teaching.

Patient and informative tutor

Greg was a great asset to helping my son with a research paper. He was very encouraging and easy to work with. My son is intimated by writing, but Greg was very patient and drew a lot out of him. He guided him in his work, and was efficient with his time. We will definitely use his services again!
