Engaging in activities that teach concepts and skills makes learning fun! I like to compare learning to write with learning to drive. Remember when you slipped behind the wheel and put the key into the ignition? You knew to do so because you watched adults for many years before you were of driving age. Writing is similar--you know to use a utensil and paper or a computer to compose, but you might be unsure what to do after that. Let me help you learn and master the rules and signs and take control of the road on your path to wonderful essays!

Beth was able to get my son on track in writing his important college essays. She motivated him but did not micro manage him. She helped him to get his thoughts on paper and organized. She allowed him to shine and express himself through his work and her guidance. At the same time having him be responsible for his deadlines. She was very flexible with her schedule and where to meet. She offered my son support via email as well as face to face tutoring. My son did not only learn how to write an essay, but also gained confidence in his writing and in his ability to meet deadlines.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a former English middle school teacher, college instructor, and published author, I teach English through creative ways--color-coding/highlighting skills, looking for patterns, chunking, acronyms, tips and tricks to uncover sentence patterns, authors' styles, and more... If current methods are not working for you, then it's time to try a new way to learn English skills--through engaging, fun, and educational tutoring lessons.
As a former middle school English/Language Arts Texas Region Teacher of the Year and past co-director of GHAWP (part of National Writing Project), I believe students should be involved in learning processes. I teach grammar through color-coding and peer workshopping so that students learn to recognize and correct their papers. However, I believe learning should be pleasurable, and it should capitalize on students' strengths. Working one-on-one with students helps them become confident that they can be successful. By using a unique approach to grammar, I can help students enhance their grammar skills.
