I currently teach at UNT in the Mathematics Department. I have been tutoring and teaching different subjects for about 10 years, and have specialized in math education for the past 5 years. I strive to make meaningful connections with my students and push them to truly learn, not just pass a class. I strive to make meaningful connections with my students and push them to truly learn, not just pass a class. I am passionate about learning sciences- studying the way we learn and understand- how the brain works, and teaching philosophy and pedagogy.
Learning should be meaningful and memorable, and I am always looking for ways to add more games or activities to my lessons. I want students to feel the joy of learning and make it a lifelong habit. When I met with a student for the first time, I take a few minutes to talk with them about how they learn, think, and study, and adapt my instruction to their individual needs.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Math and Science education, along with my secondary teaching license. I also have a master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Learning Science, where I spent a year and a half studying how we learn and the best way to teach. I have taken math classes from Algebra all the way up to Differential Equations, and received As in all of them except Abstract Algebra. That class was rough, to say the least. I currently teach College Algebra, Statistics, and Survey of Mathematics, but am able to teach and tutor in many topics, including calculus, linear algebra, and geometry.
