(now) University of North Texas (English)
I am a junior studying English at the University of North Texas. My teaching experience includes work as a substitute paraprofessional in the Mesquite ISD, as well as tutoring elementary through middle school students in mathematics, science, social studies, English, history, reading, and spelling.
I have also worked with students who have special educational needs in both classroom and home setting. My goal is to motivate and encourage students to look at whatever challenge is before them with a different perspective, and to help break down that challenge so that they might understand the steps to overcoming it.
I do this by meeting each student where they are and using fun and interactive methods that give the students the confidence and ability to accomplish the tasks set before them. I want to help students help themselves, and set them on the path of successful learning that will serve them throughout their lives.
The best part of tutoring is the moment when the student realizes that they can do it! That whatever problems or challenges they had previously faced have been overcome, and that they did it themselves, with just a little help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Starting in High School, and through College, I have five years of experience in studying Greek. In addition to the Greek courses that I attended, I participated in an extracurricular Greek club, where I learned creative and instructive tutoring techniques. My knowledge of the Greek language and my previous tutoring experience, makes me an excellent candidate for tutoring entry-level Greek language students.
